got in at about 9.30...
My header pipe snapped in 2 between the Lamda and the engine, the only piaggio part you use with the LV pipe.
I have a PM waiting to be fitted so not too much hassel.
Glenn that AA dude you went up to did get the call to come to me, said I cant fix that and then I had to wait till 4.30 for recovery van.
Mavs is more serious _________________

i got home at 10pm
broke down on M20 a few miles south of maidstone services (marker post "70 8" )
had a 2 hour wait to get off motorway on the back of a AA contractors flat bed truck which took me to the services and out of danger, then waited another hour for the AA man proper who confirmed the initial roadside Broadsmen/Darkside analysis of "it's f*cked m8" and ordered a truck to take me home which was another hours wait. luckily once i was at the services i could get water & milk for a cuppa on the stove, was quite tempted to get the tent out too!
in the engine bay under the seat hinge area is a brown junction box where 3 wires join, it seems this box must have failed in some way and the wires made contact with the body and shorted out, the wires are welded together for 2 or 3 inches and there is evidence of a lot of heat damage in the area.
the AA man put a power pack to the battery terminals and the scooter started, management light went out, all as normal revved ok but once the power pack was removed the engine only ran for another 10 seconds before dying, so methinks stator may be fecked, maybe some other stuff too. _________________

contacted CT (obviously ) described the situation and this is his reply:-
CheekyThomas wrote: | From the poor description I assume mean the stator charge wires, 3 yellows into a brown multiplug up the front under the tub? If so I doubt they shorted out, they corrode on the terminals which increases resistance, with the increase in resistance comes heat, as this builds up it melts the connectors and becomes a mess.
I assume you've rejoined the 3 yellows up again, doesn't matter which goes to which, all are interlinked anyway as part of the 3 phase charging system. Now with the slave battery connected, start it up and rev to half throttle while checking voltage at battery with multimeter, if above 14.6v the regulators dead, if not its fine and the batterys toast.
Neither way nothing major! |

well as far as my little breakdown is concerned it looks like i've go to chop out and replace about 6 inches of wiring and possibly replace the battery (£50ish?)and / or the rectifier (£130) and hopefully i'll be back out there _________________

That plug has a habit of doin that, both mine and Phils old one went brown and sticky, did mine just before IOW. I was changing the spark plug cap that was knackered and when I had my head in the engine bay I looked up and .........sh*t that needs sortin......lookily i noticed it before any problems. _________________
