|
|
Picked up my second hand GTS 250 today and well pleased. It has a PM exhaust fitted but apart from that it is standard.
I spent this afternoon getting used to it but the problem I have is when I slow down at a junction it " Back fires " ??? It seems to happen when I throttle off down to slow speed ??
This is the first four stroke I have ever had so Im still getting use to it so it could be just me ??
What am I doing wrong or is there a fault with the scooter ? my mate thinks its me getting use to the throttle.
If this is a fault how do I go about fixing it please
Thanks for your help
Cheers

might be worth disconecting the battery for a while then reconect it and
let the scoot tick over for 10 miniutes or so to reset the ecu to the pm pipe
then try again to see if it improves the popping _________________ Darkside, Norwich Broadsmen SC

Had a PM on my GT200, and had the same experience. It seems to be a standard feature with the PM. The only cure I found was to close my throttle slowly when coming to a stop.
Don't know whether PM's decibel killer would make a diference.

Mine and our Steves is the same. Seems it only happens when its cold. Once it warms up its fine. |

try what rainham boy suggests, that usually does the trick, if not then it could be that the pipe is letting air in at either the head or where the lamba sensor screws it, possibly even the slip joint.
it can also be caused by the little oil collecting bubbles on the air filter being full.
@smudger:- try the disconnect and 10min tickover reset again m8, may do the trick _________________

Rich, I did that when I installed it, I thought that the 10 min disconnect was just a shortcut, resetting the Lambda quickly, rather than it learning the new back pressure etc over time which it would have done after 500 miles, no Will give it another go though If i can get rid of most of the pooping i'll be a lot happier with the pm than I am right now
from another thread:

do it again.... reading what you put it sounds like you disconnected for 10mins then just ran it as normal
disconnect battery for a couple of minutes
reconnect battery
start scoot and let it idle for 10 minutes (cup of tea time)
should be fine _________________

I did idle it for a good 10 mins first time after reconnecting the battery,
this time I disconnected the battery for 15 mins, then idled it for 15 mins, then rode it and it did seem better, there was still some backfiring, and the engine was warmer than it is at 7 on my way to work. Off tomorrow but will give it a go in the am and see what its like.
Although having said all this I'm gonna put the LV back on tomorrow, in it's new black _________________

I must admit I love the burbling and backfiring from my PM pipe, especially when people hear this noisy 4 stroke and turn round to see that it's a scooter! |

If it wasn't my daily ride, no question I'd keep the PM on there, but for daily use the LV is the best all rounder. Just my opinion mind _________________

I put the LV back on today and it lasted about an hour. PM is defo the superior pipe hands down.
At least I know know I have the right exhaust fitted. _________________

I must add re-reading that post I took the LV off because the PM is better not because the LV broke or anything _________________
