Greetings one and all just gonna do a poll for your thoughts, i started the GTS forum way back when they first come out on a cheap freebie site (some of you may have saw!!!! Embarassed

) ,before moving onto here, i am well aware this site has started to give problems , POP UP's annoying ads etc and i feel we have lost some good people on this site due to its issues (well it is free).

so i have spoken to BROWNEY who can help me towards getting a proper website sorted with a new add free forum and get us out there, BROWNEY(steve) has also stepped in already and got the domain name sorted so its ours !!!!!!(thank you Wink

)

As with all things its always time and money will have to paid on a monthly basis which for me at the moment is scarce !!!!(sure we are all in the same boat) but if you want it i wil try it.My intention is to try and get something put together over the next couple of months and really want to ask you guys your thoughts on the way forward as you know i don't get on here as much as the other admins do and i appreciate there help in keeping the site ticking along.

So do we go for it start from scratch rebuild a new forum restart a member list ??? or are the majority of people using the site happy of the way things are now????

Can you not get the adverts removed from this site?
The company I use for forum hosting offer an ad-free version for very little cost.

Until I installed Ad-Blocker those beeping ads at the top of the page were annoying to say the least and it does appear that the pop-ups are infested with viruses.

With that in mind I would be inclined to go for the new site - but only if it doesn't leave you out of pocket.

If it's just a domain name and a re-route to a forum host i shouldn't be expensive but i'll help with costs if you need. we also need to try other forum hosts to be sure we get it right the first time. The one i use is add free for 4 dollars a month has loads of added features but doesn't flag new posts as well as this one.

Basically if this does go ahead we will purchase server space and host our own phpbb forum. Same as this setup but the newer version and a new webpage so it can be google'd with ease. All the site admins will remain the same as before.

Obviously transferring all the forum posts with the tech stuff and the like will take up the most time, although there could be an archive section where on occasion you could be directed back to this forum.

I don't have any pop-ups or ads, presumably due to my ad blocker, as I don't see them on any other site, either.

If people are bothered about them, why not install one.

I think the virus thing is a bigger concern. It's a bad sign if the forum provider has anything to do with adware companies that lead to viruses. An adblocker can't always protect you.

i can see the logic of moving IF the new site can be guaranteed ad and virus free, my only concern is losing the massive amount of info we have accumulated here Embarassed

i'm not typing it all out again, i'd rather buy a BMW and become a Ewan clone Laughing
