Check out the DoT's link for new safety rating on motorcycle helmets:

http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/

The Caberg Trip came out with top marks (5 stars) in the flip-front section. Good news for a few peeps on here who have this model Very Happy Very Happy

I'm shocked Shocked

I recently bought a Shoei XR1000 (rating 3 stars Sad ) after examining a Bell X1 (rating 5 stars).... I settled for the Shoei as the Bell assembly and manufacturing seemed shoddy and of poor quality!!!

I wish there was a table like this in shops when you buy safety gear!!!

I wonder how useful these overall star ratings are though.

Four-star helmet, the Roof Boxer, apparently comes open on impact nearly half the time of the time and my three-star Shoei Multitech does 17% of the time...

Also, I can't find anywhere saying how many helmets they tested. If they didn't test a large sample from random/varying manufacturing batches then build quality isn't going to show up accurately. A 5-star rating is no good if that company's helmets have a relatively high fault rate.

*shrug* I'm always suspiscious of statistics and ratings, especially government sponsored Wink

From the info in Motor Cycle Monthly, they took 7 examples of each helmet & subjected them to 32 different impact tests.
The results were based on how much damage would be done to your head from the various impacts. Which in the real world is all that matters.

Ah. I bet they asked the companies for them, too.

"Lads, they want to test our helmets. Don't send them any from batch 4D, the welding machine was set wrong on them..."

Hmmm, I'm not convinced by those reports for example why is the Trip better than Cabergs own higher quality Justissimo?

A Roof Boxer safer than a Shoei Multitech? No chance. Read the FAQ, no penetration test (oo-er) no chin guard test Rolling Eyes and no retention system test.

I've had Cabergs, Roof and Shoei lids and I will always buy Shoei from now on, I would consider Arai, but Shoei fit me better. They do say you've either got a Shoei head or an Arai head Laughing Laughing Laughing

I think that's because they're not road legal... Wink, I maybe wrong but the narrow aperture of the visor is not considered suitable for road use as I understand it. On http://www.designerhelmets.com it states for each of the 4 models they stock "This helmet is suitable for Car Race Use Only and as such is subject to VAT at 17.5% which is included in the price."
