I have a Polini windshield on my GTS. I'm trying to remove the stalks so I can access the headlight. I've loosened the hardware and I can't budge them out of the mounting sleeves. I've beat on them with a hammer, I've tugged and pushed and wiggled. I even went as far as holding a bag of ice on one of them for about 40 minutes in hope that I could shrink the expanding sleeve enough to move it. Nothing has worked. I'm at the point now where I might cut the stalks in order to remove the headset cover and figure out what is going on when everything is out in the open.

Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,

Rub

Does the Polini screen use the expanding bolts?

See if you can split the two covers anyway and get behind somehow.

You could break a cover and replace it or like you say cut the things off and replace screen or have the mounts welded in to one bit afterwards.

Yea, they do have the expanding bolts. I have split the covers and tried to work from below but no dice that way either.

I'm thinking about losing the whole headset cover and turning a perfectly beautiful GTS into some sort of rat bike with bug eye head lights. I'd have to drop it on it's side a few times to dent the body work sufficiently to make authentic. It's Friday, the beer will be flowing in a couple of hours, stay tuned for further developments. Shocked

Have to say that I was talked into buying a Cuppini Flyscreen and it was the worst investment I ever made. Bloody terrible! The easiest way to remove the fittings is probably not to fit them in the first place. Would really love a screen on the GTS but one which doesn't direct the wind straight into your face!

after reading this thread i've just had my screen (small genuine vespa) to bits and greased all the treads with white PTFE grease including the 3mm allen bolts holding the screen onto the support arms, they showed signs of corrosion but the wedge bolts underneath were fine, if you do strip and grease don't forget a small blob of threadlock on the small retaining bolts at the back of the wedge assembly.

Take a piece of wood and a hammer and drive them further into the hole. This will push the tapers apart and u can remove them.

Tried it and got nowhere. My next idea is to use a Dremel Tool and cut the back of the headset cover holes (toward the front/rear seam) open. That would at least allow me to take the headset cover off to install my headlight visor and for access to the headlight should I need to change the bulb.

i don't have that problem with the original windscreen. I can take it off and mount it again within minutes.
