If you're going up Oban,Fort William way the A82 is a great road although can get busy in the summer. There's also a nice wee pub just south of Glencoe-Clachaig Inn which had 7? I think ales on tap the last time I was in and does pretty good food. They have accomodation at around 40? pounds per person but the breakfast will keep ypu going for days(or until your next beer ) |

Agreed J O G is a big disappointment. All thats there is a tatty pub and a grubby shop full of tat! The scenery up the west coast is awesome and also to a certain degree along the north coast along the way.If its more riding time in Scotland you are looking for I`d suggest Applecross and there abouts.
The roads around The Caledonia Canal and around the Royal marine Commando memorial are just as breathtaking.
Some of the best roads, memories and photos I have are the Journey from my trip from Glencoe to Malaig as the sun was setting, then boarding the ferry to the Isle of Skye.....it don`t get much better! _________________ The Stig rides an Auto so is always in TOP GEAR! |

Not fussed about John O'Groats, but Glencoe, Fort William & Oban area, followed by rally, sounds good to me.
Anyone fancy a stop over at the Lakes on the way up?
That's a fair bit of touring all in, for a few days.
What mileage are you thinking of doing each day? _________________

West coast is stunning.Oban route (A83 I think) via Inveraray another great road, very popular with bikers in the summer.Isle of Bute(Animals Rally) is also nice for a wee ride around but not particularly big.If the campground is still in Port Bannatyne this year the views are excellent. .And hopefully its still a pound a drink |

Ardlui in Loch Lomond looks pretty good but I've never camped there, its about 8 miles north of Tarbet. Not too sure about other campgrounds but bloke at work is biker and regularly camps up north so I'll ask him for advice when I see him in a couple of weeks.I'll keep you posted and remember bring your midge repellent they're wee b*****ds!! |

Can we post a poll on this Forum? It would be good if we could list say two or three ideas/routes so as to please the majority. Most of the roads in Scotland would make slow`ish progress due to the nature of the roads, traffic at holiday time (the lakes more so than the west coast) and not forgetting that Scottish weather. We also have to consider how many miles miles a day folk are comfortable with and take into account the slowest rider/machine.
One word of caution,Scottish midges are fearsome creatures and are known to attack anything that has a pulse.I suggest plenty of the local Whiskey..........to dull the pain! _________________ The Stig rides an Auto so is always in TOP GEAR! |
