“Can you count suckers?” The Vespa 250 GTS ie is well and truly on “the scene”!

I bought my GTS in late 2005 as a leaving pressie on completing 22 years in the Army. The first thing I noticed about the bike was the sheer exhilarating acceleration, stability and firmness of the ride. The “WOW” factor was higher than any scooter I’d ever ridden, and I have a very fast and trick GP TS1 225.

Next up was a spray job to customise it, I chose to replicate an eighties iconic paint scheme as made famous by AF Rayspeed and the signature of Macca of Leeds down town Custom.

I joyfully wheeled her out to the Hagen Custom Show in early 2006 expecting it to steal the show but all I noticed was some real prejudice because it was an auto! I was totally amassed at the response.

I returned back to the UK in the summer of 2006 where I rode to every rally and local event possible racking up a few miles and totally enjoying the ride, passing other scooters is now my favourite past time.

I must admit that I had a mixed reaction ranging from a real interest in the bike to dickheads, who I could tell, didn’t want me there, funny no one actually said any thing to my face?

In 2007 I attended all the nationals again but this time there was a tangible difference in the attitude of scooterists.

The GTS 250 ie has, I think won the hearts or at least the respect of all scooterists for being a true full bodied metal scooter with a nod to the past and two feet firmly in the present.

I would love to see more customised GTS 250’s and I’m sure this will come.

Hi Si, I couldnt agree more, the GTS 250 is a god send to scooterists, there is a feeling amongst 2 strokers that there not proper scooters etc, but I had the same, anti, feelings leveled at me years ago when I bought the first P200electronic Mreg 1974? in Blackpool, we now know that was to become a classic rated scooter, { best scooter I ever had untill GTS}and I had an SX 200 then!. I too have a quick trick Lammy, and find exuses to ride it instead of the GTS. Spoilt now arnt we.

suit scoot it’s kinda hard not to mention it if you have been a scooting scooterists on the scene for a while. I suppose it boils down to all the silliness that means nothing yet gets under your skin at times when you see the shiny SX 200 Brigade and the “Lambretta Born agains” looking down your snout when they have just unwrapped their latest cheque book acquisition from Vietnam or tuned up with a flight jacket festooned with eBay scooter patches.

Makes me blood boil some times it does, shouldn’t do but it does.

I suppose it the same as a footy fan who has supported a team through thick and thin watching them gain success and more supporters. Its kind hard not to say “I used to sit there” or “This used to be our stand”

Like I said, all silly men’s stuff I suppose.

Last year I went on one of our mid week ride outs, I live near Barnsley and you can’t throw a stone with out hitting a scooter, on this ride out there was a chap the same age as me (45) , who was ridding an immaculate SX 200 Arthur Francis replica. He was wearing doc martin shoes, Levis with a flighty covered in run patches. I spoke to him and asked if he was either going to Kelso or Skeggy? He looked at me gone out and asked what the fook I was talking about. I actually had to explain to him about the national scooter rallies!!!

So why do us old folk insist on saying *Ive got a lammy at home* when they turn up on a GTS? Coz if we have we want to say.

Oh and I have…………………………….

1 Italian GP 200 TS1 – 1 Lambretta Cento – 1 Lambretta LI 150 – 1 Vespa 50 special – 1 Vespa Primavera 125 ET3 – 1 Vespa PX200E Lusso Malossi 210 – 1 Vespa P200E

Oh and I’m also the club president of The Armed Forces Scooter Club

I can also cook (although pastries elude me), I’m not a bad plumber, I won the egg and spoon three times on the trot at school plus my mother said that I had the hands of a strangler when I was a baby but she was as mad as a fookin fish and I didn’t quite know what she ever meant?

suit scoot hope that clears that one up? It doesn’t mean were dirty, it just means were old Smile

another top used saying:-

"remember back in the 80's.........."

owning a GTs shows forward thinking, looking to the future not relying on the past to make you "accepted

Hi Suitscoot, Nicey, I only mentioned the Lammy cos Simon did, and cos it was something I always wanted to do, a from the ground up rebuild, untill I did it, would I do another? not on your life! that "project" took 18 months!, 3 months before completion I sold a PX 200 and an SX 200 replica, to buy the GTS, and apart from having so much money in the project Lammy, probably wouldnt have bothered finishing it! after riding the GTS! Ps Nicey, the 74 Vespa 200 has been called Rally etc, but I knew it as P200electronic, as on the left side panel, Rallys ran fuel in through the barrel, where electronics ran throuh the crank, as Px still do, I think? it was a long time since! Still think they were the fastest Vespa 200 untill the GT 200 arrived. Pps, the Lammy has only been shown twice, and won 2 trophys, best paint/mural at Yorkshire invasion, and best vintage at Cheeky Northern Monkeys, only cos I was asked to enter both times, not built to win anything, built for me!

Good grief, please tell me this forum aint all about slating each other? I posted a bit about prepping yer scoot for the summer after the winter period and it was seen as a red rag for people to state that they are “all year round riders” and some what belittled my post. Now it would seam that because I have mentioned I have a lambretta it’s been “poo poo’d”

Do I need to show my Scootering CV before I can post on here?

Suit scoot you should remember that the season starts very soon and we will hopefully stand together with a beer or two, none of us will have a key board and tom be honest forums like this are only for information and idea swapping they are not real and people should be respected for who they are and not pigeon holed coz they say some thing a bit naff.

Come on boyz n girls lets not get all daft n silly coz taping away in yer back bed room on the internet as not what it’s about, it’s about putting your lid on and enjoying the road.
