GTS fans,

After less than 1700 kilometers the black paint on the exhaust start to disappear and serious corrosion is visible underneath. After claening the exhaust with a brush the paint gets off and corrosion is getting visible, particularly near/at the welding joints.

Yes, I know its no problem to lightly sand the metal and re-spray with heat resisant black paint, but I am disappointed about the fact that the exhaust painting is of such poor quality, don't you think?

Regards from Holland,

Pombal

Yeah they need repainting often, we use Wurths heat resistant paint and it gives a good factory looking finish and lasts well... the reason they kill the paint is the fact they have a catalyst inside, which is designed to get very hot, at times they reach 1300' and higher... and although paints claim to withstand it, they dont appriciate the constant expanding and contracting the metal work does, which leads to the paint lifting off the surface, then allowing the metal to rust and then the paint flakes off...

Oooooh.....Dont get me started !! i've only got a couple of hundred miles on mine and there is already signs of rust !! being a bit of a perfectionist i've already taken the exhaust off, rubbed it down and repainted with heat resistant paint. I used the halfords 'very high temperature' paint says it withstands up to 500 deg cels and shows it being used on car manifolds of which i'm sure get bloody hot. I have been running it since and seems to be lasting well and giving a nice matt finish.. A tip when spraying heat resistant paint is to use lots of really thin coats !!..

500' paint isnt that hot, certainly not manifold temp... you need 800+ fopr manifolds.

Barbeque paint is good and lasts well as its robust, im just not a lover of semi-shiney black exhausts.

cheeky, it says 500 deg c on tin and suitable for manifolds , but hey we shall see !! I,ve used this paint many times on my 180 runner exhaust and it seems to last a while but i only use my scoots for pleasure and i don't really go out if i can help it if it's damp or wet which probably helps..

Mines looks crap too.I`m thinking of replacing it with a after market pipe in the spring and then cleaning and repainting the standard pipe.I`ll put it back on if I sell the scooter and if the after market one is still in good conditon at that time, sell it on.

i claimed a standard pipe off the warranty because im a cheeky bugger Wink

if i ever sell the scooter and when it needs an MOT ill put the standard exhaust on.

i did 2500 miles on the first standard pipe in 3 months and it died, theyre almost as bad as scorpions!

that pj1 fast black paint is great, i did my rims with it!

looks beasty as well. Very Happy
