anyone know if there is a tom tom rider mount avaliable for the MP3 and if so where would i get one from and £?

Hullo, Mav! I'm on the forum now 
I'm guessing this question might be on my behalf (unless you're eying up an MP3 seriously now! Woohoo!)
I actually did a fair bit of research last night (actually, mostly while at work) and have found all sorts of info.
1) The TomTom Rider v2 kit includes a RAM Mount that would attach to variaously sized bars, though, since the handlebars are covered on the MP3, that means the mirror stalk!
2) Some folks have stuck a mount (adhesive or sucker cup) to the base of the screen. Most folks seem to think this ill-advised. Too much wobble and risk of flying TomTom.
3) Some folks have disassembled the covers that hold the screen in place (as they would when replacing the screen) and drilled a couple of holes in the cover below the screen. This seems a firm place to fix the TomTom mount, but involves drilling (eek) and is perhaps an odd position. Only obscures your view of the front of the bike, but I'd prefer it lower down (I find TomTom in the car distracting if it's too in my face)
4) Some folks have drilled into the brake fluid reservoir covers and mounted there. This seems to be an ok idea. Involves drilling (eek) but at least on a part that is easily replaceable.
5) Some folks have reported that Europeans (not including UK in Europe there) and Yanks have a Piaggio mount kit available which seems to be a replacement for the cover over the centre of the handle bars covering. This would be tidiest, no doubt, but I can't find one in the UK and the rumour is it only fits version 1 TomTom Riders. I have my dealer looking into this.
Then theres the electrics... the thought of attaching to some wiring someone fills me with dread, but, supposedly, there is a 'standard' way of doing it. I've seen descriptions of all sorts of solutions - these all seem to be done by folks who can also do things like modding the headlight low-beam to stay on when the high-beam is switched on. I'd like to do that too, but messing with electrics scares me more than drilling into poor Vyky. (Er, I've named the MP3 Vyky - Vicky - coz the number plate is ****VYK - doesn't everyone do this? Is this my first forum feux pas? Or is using the phrase "feux pas" my first? Doh!)
Well, it's not so much I'm afraid of trying, I'm afraid of making expensive and/or permanent mistakes!
Anyway - I'm sure I'll be able to sort it and I'd like to try modding without crawling back to the dealer/garage every five minutes - part of the 'scene' eh? |

By the way - my plan at the moment is to mount on the mirror stalk and think about it
Then I wait and hope there's a Piaggio mounting kit with instructions for electrical connection.
Future stage (when the Piaggio kit proves to be non-existent) is to drill and mount on one of the brake fluid reservoir covers and try and work out how to feed through to the electrics. I've read the lights electrics are good to use, coz they are ignition controlled and shouldn't, therefore, drain the battery. Hmm. |

Or this is how i did mine.....
bought a ram ball mount from ram.co.uk
bolted it through the plastics with a bit of ali behind ...works a treat.....

Ah, yes - good stuff. I'll test out the mirror mount, but I'm sure I'll quickly decide that's no good and 'ball-mount' (ooer) on the panelling somewhere.
Again, it's the electrics that really worry me, though! Maybe I will take the cowardly route and ask the dealer this once... I'm an old fashioned man - I should probably spend some time enjoying taking Vyky out and getting to know her before I try and get inside and fiddle about!

The RAM mount attached to the mirror stalk is actually working fine.
You have to Z it back on itself but it hovvers around with surprisingly little vibration. I have to look down very slightly, but that is actually good, I think, I don't like having it in full view all the time - find it distracting.
I put it on the left so it obscures the speedo a little if anything. Think I'll move it to the right tomorrow, coz seeing the revs ain't as important, eh? Wish I'd thought of that to begin with, but I wanted to get riding!
I'll link a pic later in case anyone is interested.
I'm still not even thinking about wiring it in for charging - that scares me, but I guess I should get in there... can anyone advise? Anyone wired in the TomTom (it does come with wiring, but the instructions aren't Piaggio MP3 specific obviously!). |

Thanks for that - do you know anywhere where these can be ordered by Joe Public or do I just phone my dealer?
By the way - a neighbour and long-time biker pointed out to me that the bolt-to-the-wing-mirror configuration I had used for the TomTom mount was likely to rip open my femeral artery and ball-sack if I go over the handlebars, so I think I'll rethink that one |

yeah but dave, all bikers are girls and are fully first aided up, i'm surprised he didn't back away from the MP3 saying...
"stay calm folks, it's not a BMW, back away slowly" 
just stick a plaster and some zip ties under the seat for the artery and nad sack and we'll sort it at the rally when you catch up

Well, I got some rubber washers and drilled the centre handlebar cover and mounted the TomTom.
Bit too close to the front, so now I can't see the warning lights, but who needs those, eh?
It'll do until I get the Piaggio one... At least now there's no risk of it getting embedded in my groin if I ram someone |

CheekyT, is there anywhere that a punter like me can organise Piaggio parts being mailed direct to me, or do I need to go through a dealer?
After the 'nippy' ride over to see you guys at the weekend (think it took me 30 minutes to stop shivering - what a poof! Must wear the winter lining next time...) I am definitely going to get a medium screen, though I think I'll cut it down 8 inches. Also want to try a TomTom mount - i reckon even the Rider v1 mount will provide the bit I really need and I can swap in my v2 parts for the TomTom connection.
Perhaps if I order through you, I could get booked in for a weekend slot and see the sights of Lowestoft while you fit the screen and fiddle with the TomTom? A real, actually paying job, like You'd be a lot less likely them me to muff up the shortening of the screen, too! As we know, I can't even get off the stand... (doh!)
