When you have screen off, and are looking at the front of the bike, youll see the main ignition relays to the upper LH corner... take a feed off one of them...

The relays will have full time 12v feeds or engine running live feeds, depending how you want it to be wired.

If i remember the furthest back to the LH side is the main beam relay so will be fine... but any of the relays feeds will provide enough power for sat nav as its milli-amps they need.

Ok, now you've started something...

"take a feed off" what does that mean? Wink My knowledge of electrickery goes as far as changing plugs and replacing light fittings. Do I just work out which wires are the ignition, cut one and splice the TomTom inline?

"The relays" Wassat then? Is that a posh name for wires or circuits or am I looking for a component of some sort?

"will have full time 12v feeds" 12v sounds a lot for a TomTom - aren't those usually 6v? Won't a 12v feed blow it up? Smile

"engine running live feeds" I'm thinking I only want it to run when the engine is running so it can't kill the battery. So, "main beam relay" sounds good, though won't that only be live when on main beam? If so, wouldn't dipped be better (though then night riding will end up with a dead TomTom). How do I tell the wires apart except by cutting them and seeing what stops working? Very Happy

In summary: do you know a good book on basic scooter electrics I should read Laughing Laughing I'm ok with drills and spanners and the like, but electric spagetti I've always steered clear of.

Haha... Laughing

"Take a feed off"... basically means join into the wire and use its supply.

The relays are just an electrical switch, 2 bigger wires which are the main power, and 2 smaller wires that are the trigger wires... they are an electrical component, a small square that just unplugs for its wiring connector.

The picture below is the relays on the Fuoco... on the MP3 they are all together in a square not in a line and further to the LH side.

Tom tom will have a 12v supply as if not you couldnt use it in a car Wink
The days of 6v cars are well gone...

Personally i would run it from a engine live feed so you cant flatten the battery, but it doesnt matter too much as it would take about 3 months to flatten the battery anyway, and how often will you leave the satnav on the bike without you there anyway?? I bet it wont be often as first time you do it will get stolen Rolling Eyes

I would use the Main beam relay as its the one doing the least work as it wont be used that often Wink Normally youll be on dipped beam. The relay works as a giant switch, so when the engine is running a very good 12v supply will be at the relay even when your on dipped, so it will charge all the time.

Im getting the feeling it would be quicker to ride up here and ill do it Laughing

hehe I do understand now - I'm sure I could do it if I can identify the correct relay to jack and what connectors to use - thanks lots for the offer though!

I am interested to learn this stuff and, though I don't want to blow up my scooter, I will be 'in there' for the new screen anyway...
