I had the idea of a weekend touring in Wales for 2009. I was bored one night last week and ran this by Mav:
The idea would be to travel to North Wales on the Friday, so guys coming from East Anglia area thats about 220 miles, picking up any of the midlands lot along the way. Anyone elese we can meet at Chester services on the M56. Travel through to Snowdonia on the first night and camp. Then down to the Breacon Beacons via portmeirion (the Prisoner village) for the 2nd night and then we all head off home, low commitment lots of riding I worked out for Mav it would be about 640 miles for the 3 days. Map below.
Theres lots to see on the route like the Horseshoe Pass, Conway castle, Swallow Falls, Snowdonia, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Brecon Beacons and the already mentioned Portmeirion (the place names are 'clickable' to wikipedia entries ).
Theres some stunning riding to match anything we did in Scotland.... Plus only a weekend away, so low cost and low commitment & lots of riding.
Anyone up for it?
I know this is a lot more local for me than most of you but Wales has some of the best roads for riding going.
It would be great to get the Scotland 08 guys back together with a few more peeps this time around
I have intended this to be a short 'weekend break' to fit in with the other things we have planned for next year. The High Voltage tour Welsh section!?

im not poo pooing the idea but isnt there enough things going on in 2009? i think the more events that get planned the less people you will get on each one......just my thoughts......i wont be going anywhere next year unless there is a rally to attend in with it _________________

Interesting idea but as Gav says try and tie it in with a rally or even a race meet perhaps as just past Llanelli there is Pembray race track ( I think).
So much being planned for next year I have not got clue which things to put my names down for ........plus her indoors wittering on about credit crunch and taking it easy does not help!

Guys the point of this weekend is for riding , not rallying, if that doesn't float your boat fair enough.
The point is to get out on our scooters and ride, plenty of rallys to attend this is something a little different. As good as the Bute rally was, and it was great , the riding was the best thing about the Scotland trip for me.
Just trying to suggest something that can be a cheap weekend, for those who don't wanna spend a week in Germany or do some foreign.
If the idea goes nowhere then that's cool, but I like the idea....(obviously )
No dates in mind yet will need to fit around the other things going on, just wanna gauge peoples thoughts and like I say I'm not gonna be upset if it goes nowhere, disappointed maybe but not toy out of pram or anything....
Ian may have hit on something maybe loose the Brecon Beacons and tie in with scooter racing at Ty Croes in Anglesey???? Still leaving plenty of time for riding in North Wales (Some of the best on this here island IMHO) _________________

There was that Welsh rally last year that was supposed to have been really good, dont know why I missed it, unless it clashed, was it on anglesey? and there was the Llandudno rally, so maybe not so difficult to work in with a North Wales rally, dont think they do much in West Wales though? _________________ GTS250 its the future!!! i think its a great idea for those of us who like to ride and not stay over,
i have work and family ties that make it impossible to stay over but love to attend rallies and ride , maybe just a thought ,the map which you have put up, then people could look to where they could join the ride and commit themselves that way.

Just a thought, but isn't the Germany tour about riding with no rally involved _________________
