Firstly, apologies to the Admin if this is in the wrong section - please feel free to move if required.
Having taken my cue from an earlier post re: LEJoG, I have taken the plunge and am planning to do this ride in May this year.
Although my plans are at an early stage, I am planning on riding from Maidstone - Lands End - John o'Groats - Kelso (rally) - Maidstone. A round trip of some 1,860 miles.
Is there anyone out there who has done LEJoG and can offer some good advice?
I'm thinking along the lines of overnight accomodation and routes. I was thinking of breaking the trip up with a nights stay in Lands End, one near the Scottish Border and one up at John O'Groats - or as close to possible to all three.
Also, can anyone offer advice in approaching dealers etc to getting my GTS serviced as cheaply as possible and getting new tyres, again, as cheaply as possible - if not free.
And finally, I am, at the moment, doing this ride solo - so is there anyone out there who fancies joining me for all, or part of the ride?
Departure date from Maidstone is set for Monday 18th May, departing from Lands End the following day. Two days to get to John O'Groats and heading back to Kelso (if all goes well) on Thursday 21st.
This ride is being done to raise money for a couple of local causes and I am not going to badger anyone on here to sponsor me as I don;t want to step on the toes of those doing the planned Help for Heroes LEJoG.
Cheers

I did LEJOG 3 years ago but,as i did it on a T5 and with 20 other riders, alot of what i did wont work for you.
I stayed at Fenny Bridges(near Exeter) on the first night, then near Preston the next day, near Fort William the next and finally John 'O' Groats.
Back down to Edinburgh the next day, then Wakefield, then home.
On a GTS you'll obviously cover greater distances per day.
What i would say is leave yourself plenty of time for the Scottish leg,the roads are slower, the weathers changeable but most of all because its some of the best riding your ever going to do _________________ Hey ho,twist'n'go! |
