As it was a nice sunny day, thought I had better see how the GTV performed all loaded up. Got myself and wife togged up in our all weather jackets with linings in, loaded up under the seat with various clothes and items, and filled the 45 litre topbox with just over 3kg of clobber.

The handling really didnt seem much different, could still lean it right over and apart from the suspension bottoming out a wee bit all was fine. Acceleration was good too, but....
Ive always thought my 250 was a little gutless, it gets up to speed quick but never had it above 78mph and realistically its under 75 unless a downhill stretch but today on the flat it managed just 65mph all loaded up which is pants. Even downhill it just made 72.

Thing is, we are off to Germany next year and this means all loaded up Im going to be ringing its neck all the time. I just dont get it, everyone says their 250s do 80 to 85... I rode an X8 250 last week with half my mileage and it topped 85 easily and apart from the standing start was quicker all the time.

I mentioned its lack of speed to the dealer, and they didnt know what to say... Im a wee bit dissapointed tbh, especially as my P200 will just manage 70mph 2 up Laughing

i find my GTS250 doesn't "perform" to it's true potential until i've done a few miles and got it properly warmed up, for me that means about when i hit the M11 at cambridge, from my house about 40miles then it does hit the mid to high 80's no problem, until then it seems "normal".

Oh right, but the X8 I rode hit 85 within 6 miles of home. Im a bit concerned about having to ride it flat out when we go abroad just to maintain motorway speed, well 65mph anyway Embarassed

Its done 2300km now, will it massively improve over time? I have wanted to get a Fugly but no demos available anywhere.

Wonder if the difference in headsets plays a part here? the GTV has a very short screen and must be like a GTS without a screen...... sometimes gutless but totally transformed witha medium size screen on Wink
My last GTS was very slow against my mates GTS until I fitted a screen and a 140 rear tyre and then he sometimes struggled keeping up with little old me on it (I'm no lightweight) Laughing

I think its the fact there is no screen as such, all the wind is hitting me chest. Ill let it bed in a bit more and see what happens, it might be a slow trip though Embarassed

I wonder if they do an aftermarket screen for the GTV?

Defo worth looking into. Even if its hideous you can take it off after the rallies.

HI Barry it is my understanding that changing the weight of the centrifugal rollers in the variator [ mallosi speak ] has the effect as follows = heavier rollers increases top speed but acceleration suffers, converly lighter rollers reduce top speed but increase acceleration, obviously talk to someone on sight with practical knowledge mine is only what i have viewed on sites, cheers and good luck jimmeyg.

Cheers, but Im not really into tuning... there is a screen available but its huge and Im sure will act like a sail and slow it down too.
Guess Ill just live with having a slow GTV.
