|
|
My standard Sava rear tyre on my GTS is already bald at 3,400 miles. I'm no speed demon so can't believe that it's already a gonna.
What sort of mileage did everyone else get out of theirs before their first change?
cheers
Forgot to say... I'm gonna do the job myself (other than actually putting tyre on rim)... is there any nasty little surprises or anything different from a standard rear tyre fitment that I should be aware of?
cheers again

The sava`s are pretty poor mate.. ...

better to take the exhaust off at the head rather than the obvious joint near the stand, more fiddly but the gasket at this joint has been know to fail if disturbed leading to the cutting torch like gas causing problems, most should have been done on a piaggio recall and changed to a better down pipe but the gasket at the joint is still better left alone. _________________

heres teh low down on whats good and whats not.
and yes i have had all these tyres on my scooter!
avon viper stryke - not bad in the dry, but useless in the wet, the durability is quite good.
continental zippy 1 - best compromise, good grip, cheap to buy, long life, but when they square off slightly the scooter handles like a pissed monkey.
michelin pilot sport - best grip, but they last 5 minutes and are vey expensive. (i have one on the front at the moment)
continental conti twist sport - good grip, medium price, good in the wet. (dont know how long they last because its my current rear tyre)
kings tyre - USELESS SHIT!!! slide all over the place in all weathers... i think theyre made out of plastic
sava's - another awful tyre, last 5 minutes and you have no grip. nearly killed me them things! _________________ revolution deathsquad! |

I have Savas, and the rear will need to be replaced in 300 miles, having only done 4000 miles by then. My Michelin Gold Standards on the X9 were/are terrific. Piaggio didn't stint on decent tyres for that bike. Mind you when I remember the cost of the bike from new.......I'd expect decent tyres. |

I'm gonna take my exhaust off at the obvious joint. Although my GTS has been fitted with the revised downpipe, shall I order a new gasket? Does the new system have a gasket?
cheers |

Yes you still need a gasket, and it should be replaced each time the exhaust is taken off... its part number is 826388.
Not a fan of michelin myself, but only due to the previous experience with sportsbike tyres, not scooter ones.... The Pirelli diablo scooter tyre is decent.
But its all rider choice. |

Thats very cheap Mav. they're about £45 each around here and on the net. Sp4u do the cheapest Mitch I've seen at £35 each
Personally I've gone off Mitch Pilots for two reasons. Firstly they seem to hate any sort of change in road surface, be that a white line or tar seam, the jump straight off and sometimes thats quite scary. The other reason is they only last about 2.5K miles, And with the rear being such a pain in the arse to change and the worry of chipping the paint on my rims everytime the are changed, so i'm gonna try some thing new after five sets of Pilots.
The Grip level though is superb so I might need to take my time a bit on the new ones till I find out how sticky they are. _________________

Yeah its a good price indeed... very good.
I assume they do car tyres too, so get a good wholesale discount. |
