After getting back into Scoots after a break,I bought my GTS which ticked all the boxes for me.Large enough for my frame,reliable,good performance and Vespa heritage.
Iv`e been to a number of clubs around the area and although they are a canny bunch they lack my enthusiasm for `progressive` scootering.
I`m sure some of you will have come across this negative attitude and decided `it`s up to me what I ride...stuff `em`
My point is,why hang around with negative folk when there are more` like minded` riders around.
I have also got somewhat weary (and the seasons only just started!) riding so slow will other riders who experience breakdowns which ruin the day out for everyone.(Part of the challenge I`m told!)
For me, a ride to the Lake District there and back in a day is a breeze.For many of the `Trad` scoots it`s a military exercise doomed for failure and best not attempted!
My GTS is a tad small for a pillion so I am considering a change to a larger Scoot.So this leads me on to the Question `Do I join the Darkside`? I reckon £25 is good value but before I commit I`d like to see who rides around here,how often do they get out and about locally etc etc.
I apologise if this post offends any Traditional riders using the Forum.I just want to get the most out of riding and most of that will be within a 150 mile radius will the occasional longer ride.

I think from reading your post that your about ready to join the darkside......we have all had the negative peeps telling us what they think about auto's..............bollox is my answer! the darkside is a lot about feeling ie. being with like minded people! it really is a good buzz! there are no realy major meets (apart from the 2 belgium trips) but there are darksiders at most rallys............as for scooters boo has a tmax you could ask his advice and ive had a nexus,mp3,and now the fuoco if there is owt you want to know just yell Wink

All i can add to Gav`s post is that.....after going through

2 x t5`s
A p2
2x dragsters
2 x gts`s

then going on to a yam t-max 500.....

all i can say is it go`s from strength to strength.....its a 500 twin and it absolutely flies .....up to 108mph Shocked

so far.....smooth at high or low speeds

bullet proof engine.....yearly services.....altho ive now done 4000 miles with no costs at all (apart from fuel)

I cannot speak for the 3 wheelers.....but i found the nexus 500 a bit lumpy at low speed but as they say its not often driven at low speeds Wink

i can't think of a reason for you not joining the Darkside.......

you've got the auto scooter now come and meet the folks who party!

we don't tend to meet up for little jaunts out on a sunday afternoon, we tend to go more for the weekends away at rallys, i often ride halfway across the counry solo to meet up with them at a rally so it must be worth it......

it's more about being with like minded people rather than club meets down the pub every second wednesday in the month to talk about where to go on the monthly rideout Rolling Eyes

you've got your name down for the scotland trip, most if not all the folks going are Darkside, come along, see what you think and if you like what you see, join Cool

When I bought my 1st auto 3 years ago, there were no Darksiders in the West Midlands, non of the trads would have anything to do with me, even though I have been doing rallies since '80 (they just took the piss out of my Runner).
It didn't bother me as I knew I had done the right thing.
I joined the Darkside & then went to the 1st Darkside Rally in Belgium '06 on my own. I met everyone at Ashford Eurotunnel & was immediately made welcome. From that 1st meeting I made many friends & am now having the best time of my life.
So don't worry if there aren't any Darksiders near you, as you will definately meet up with us sooner or later.
You won't regret it Cool

i'm a bit like chevy (only taller) been into scoots since 1980 and brought my runner 2 years ago and not looked back sold all the trads and spares ,
the darkside is just a welcome breath of fresh air and sod all the others, it makes me smile as if alot of people who slag off autos had a go they would get one
