the bearing the rear axle goes thru mounted in the swingy arm thingy that the exhaust mounts to........

what's the best (proven, not guesswork Wink ) method of extracting this bearing and refitting a new one??? heat or no heat? big socket and a nut & bolt???

thanks for the offer gav Cool but we've got all sorts of fly and machine presses at work, it's just i use the scoot for work and if i did it at work and then the bearing place down the road has to order one in it's a bit of an arse.........

would my drill press (you've used it) combined with a socket, as a press tool, do the job ok or do you think it would be a bit feeble Embarassed

anyone got the bearing dimensions so i can see if the bearing shop has one in stock before i strip stuff down?

You dont really need a press unless its grotty in there, they normally tap out easy enough, especially if youve got some heat source....

put the new bearing in the frezzer for a couple of hours or more as this shrinks it a bit and is easier to get in

Nope it does the opposite.... the alloy brace expands quicker than the steel bearing and therefore it gets looser....

...keeping the case warm and fitting a cold bearing will make it very easy indeed, it will probably just drop in.

but won't the alloy expand "into" the hole and not just outwards round the edge?

Trust me i do millions of them Wink

It expands and therefore the machined place for the bearing gets bigger... its the same with crankbearings etc...

So no it wont expand into the hole...

Think of it like taking a photo of the swingarm... heating it is like then enlargening the picture by 0.01%.

At work i use a Paint stripping gun and just get it hot to the touch... when we raced RS125s i used to do the engine rebuilds at home in the evening and put the crankcases in a low oven... worked a treat Laughing
