Thats me shot down in shit then. Funny how my gts wouldn't pull 9 grm rollers though, and goes like fook on 14s. so what was i doing wrong?

Thats because the rollers were so light that they couldnt over come the contra springs pressure so it didnt allow the belt to reach the highest part of the pulley... you would need a softer contra spring to match... but with a weaker contra spring you can develop belt slip... its a viscous circle Wink

But you cant get any other contra springs other than the malossi one that comes with the variator and thats stronger, The polini variator reccomened the standard spring and thats what i had on.

and if it's out of warrenty drill the rivets out, strip it down and see if it can be repaired, there's not a lot to them internally.......

i repacked mine with stainless steel pan scourers........ i found it best to take both ends off, sort it all out, refit the end with the baffle tube on, force the new filling in,jamming it down with a cut off broom handle then refit the end can. stainless rivets used throughout.

i think sometimes they "rattle" because the packing they originally come with deteriorates and allows any pop rivet ends that are in the can from manufacture to rattle around..... you can see how little packing there is from the picture

the baffle tube itself is quite a substantial thing, i'd be suprised if that failed.

You can buy bags of proper exhaust wadding for like £3... much better than using metal scouring pads Wink
