Hi Guys,
I've got myself a TomTom Rider v2 and mounted it on my lefthand mirror stem.

Having read through all the 'rider' related threads on this here forum, my question is which of the wires under the kneepad should I use to hot-wire my TomTom to? And is it an easy job?

Off to Kelso (via Falkirk!) from Kent next week so need the have the satnav charged for longer than the six hours it's reputed to last on battery alone.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

The wiring I got with the Rider doesn't have a gig-lighter type plug, it is intended for connecting straight to the battery.
However, I don;t want the wire running down the legshield and under the floor mat so I thought I could connect it up to the loom under the kneepad.

My Rider v1 came with the cig lighter adaptor so that it could be charged while being used in the car.

I bet you could pick one up for peanuts on E-bay.

This way it's only a temp job. The panel has the wiring fitted and you just plug it into the GTS' loom. Wink

If you remove the small trim on the LH upper side of the innerleg shield you will find a bunch of unused multiplugs, probe them and youll find a switched live feed suitable... Wink

the plan was to permanently fix the wire supplied to the gts wiring under the knee-panel. That way I could simply tuck the wiring away when not in use and there would only be a short length showing when using the rider.

Pepy, the v2 doesn't come with a ciggy lighter type connector so that bit of kit from the states isn't a lot of use to me.

Now, to work out which is the live feed!

i have my tom tom (one V1, not rider) mounted on the mirror stem using a motorcycle handlebar mount and a reducing collar.

power lead goes thru mirror grommit, thru bars down behind horn cover, thru fuse block into glove box where the cig socket is.

cig socket wire goes back out of glove box thru fuse block, behind horn cover, was fished thru with other cables to the battery.

obviously with the rider having a different mount and direct wiring with no cig socket you could miss out the glove box bit and go directly from tom tom to battery.

which ever method you use i would try and route the cable internally to avoid loose wiring that could get caught and possibly pull you of fcourse, safety first Wink

let us know what you do and how you get on, i've been wanting to change to a tom tom rider but as the monut is also the power source i was wodering how and where to mount it.

The good thing about the rider v2 is that it lasts for up to six hours when fully charged, but with me likely to be on the road for a lot longer than that next weekend I was looking to use the power cable supplied to keep the rider charged up.

My plan is still to wire it into the loom behind the knee pad but I see your point about loose wires between the handlebars and the top of the toolbox.

Think I'll have to investigate your suggested route for the wiring but go through the handlebars and through the toolbox to the loom behind the kneepad. A bit more work but a lot tidier and safer I think.

I'll post and let you know how I get on.

no need to go thru toolbox there's access to behind the knee pad area from behind horncover, all will be revealed when you take horn cover and knee pad off Cool

Sorted now and all for the princely sum of 50p!!!

Bought two small blue 'snaplock' connectors, connected the rider wire to the vespa loom under the knee-panel, and ran the wire up and out through the gap at the top of the horncasting.
An easy fix that allows me to quick thread the wire back inside the bodywork when not using the tomtom and means I only have to loosen off the kneepad to get access to the wire when I want to use it.
