I noticed today after coming back from a nice ride in the summer sunshine that my rear tyre is due for a change very soon.

My question is, Where do i go to get a tyre, do i hvae to take the rear wheel off for the trye place to do it. Anybody recommend somewhere near Northamptonshire.

Im used to taking the wheel off and wacking on a new S1. But i have always ridden PXs or Lambrettas. GTS wheels look a bit more complecated. Don't want to take the exhaust, swinging arm off ect if i don't have to.

Help please.

yep!! all off!! Michelin pilot sport,are apparently the best,i'm due for one soon myself,i've had the exhaust off, thats relatively easy,and the swing arm plate behind doesn't look too difficult either! Rolling Eyes

Pilot Sports is the way to go IMO go for the 140 on the rear Wink

Got mine done by a shop called Arch Motorcyles in Leamington Spa........ Piaggio dealers and very friendly and reasonable priced Wink

did the wheel balacing and exhaust recall all at the same time, I was well please with the result Laughing

Continental for me the pilot sport can empty your back side on the white lines with the wobble or slide on the white road markings....... Cool

Ian, did you take the bike into the shop in leamington.
Any idea how much it was for the tyre and to fit it. Did they do whilst you wait or did you leave it with them.

I would consider how often you want to be changing your rear tyre. Pilots are good, stick like shit to a blanket. But you have to get used to them reacting to white lines like pushing the wrong ends magnets together. The main downfall is wear, they don't last long and if you do a lot of miles you can get through a few sets a year, I did three rears and two fronts last year. I'm trying Avon Vipers at the moment but had a scare on the way home from abscond to the pond when the back end stepped out on me on a corner doing 60....SHAT ME SELF. I was going for Metzlers but couldn't get them in time so settled for the Avons. It'll be Metzlers for me next though. Suitscoot has got through a fair few so you might want to PM him for his input.
Also you could buy the tyres off the net and take your wheel to any tyre fitter to get them put on.

Yeh took the scoot over and it came to around £100 with everything including fitting and exhaust Wink

he had to order tyres in ...took him 2 days to get em so book in advance Wink

pilots are too soft for the rear. wayy too soft.

the best one to get for the rear is a continental zippy, or twist. hard as nails, but still gives decent grip when warmed up.

pilot's are good on the front for about 6000 miles. but when they wear the scoot handles like crap. like mine is now, gonna get a new un from whitby if i can Evil or Very Mad

avon's are bad. good in the dry but its like riding on a sheet of ice in the wet and they last 5 minutes.

you want a harder rear tyre than the front. that way youll get the grip under hard braking but you'll get the durability the rear.

don't buy a king's tyre, i had one as a spare incase of an emergency. i put it on the rear for 2 days. i did a massive rolling burnout from the lights in the wet with it. it was almost plastic! Laughing

i have just put a scwable weather track 140/70/12 on the rear of mine , done 200miles and seems good in the wet and good in the dry , not too bad on white lines and corners preety well, lots of tred,

had a avon stryke on my runner and was not impressd , could not keep it in a straight line in the wet as it kept wheel spinning and stepping out and didn't corner that well in the dry

Alan, i got a new rear tyre just before i went to Kelso. Theres a place in Bunting road, behind trinity school, RB motorcycles. They fitted a pilot sport on and charged £65.00. That included taking exhaust etc off. They did'nt balance the wheel though, mopeds dont need to be apparently ( there words not mine ). there numbers in yellow pages.

Where I got mine done they balanced the wheels took it for a spin and then came back and said they needed to redo balancing as they detected a very slight wobble so they stripped it and redid the wheels again......spot on and no extra charge.......whoever says mopeds do not need wheels balancing would not get my bussiness ....mopeds do 35mph .......try having a speed wobble at 85mph....it aint a moped ......it's a lean mean scooter touring machine Laughing
