Replacement exhaust manifold fitted and GTS is back on the road.
Fitted system to scooter loosely, aligned silencer correctly before I secured it and then tightened cylinder nuts. Hopefully this has prevented stress being induced into exhaust manifold so it won't fail again. I had to replace manifold studs and nuts because badly corroded. I used lambretta brass nuts and spring washers on exhaust manifold so hopefully it will be easier to remove in the future and less likely to weld themselves together with corrosion like mine did and with the added bonus of less stud thread being exposed to rust. Only time will tell how successful this has been they may keep coming loose like on lambretta i will keep you posted if they do.
Hopefully my experience my help others and not just bored you all to death!! |

Mine blew coming back from Trevisio and it had the modified one on, also two of my pals went as well (250 GTS), all modified . So Piaggio havn't solved the problem have they. I intend to keep getting it done under warranty until the 2 years is up and then buying a differant one . Any suggestions? Graham 250GTV |

Its possible the manifold fractures if it is assembled wrongly.
This occurs by tightening the exhaust downpipe to cylinder before postioning it correctly for the silencer. So when you fit the silencer you force the manifold into the correct postion using the 3 securing bolts that retain the silencer this causes the twisting stress and eventual failure.
The answer is to make sure your dealer fits it correctly or do it yourself and get it right. Its a pain in the arse job with poor access to the cylinder exhaust nuts but the recall kit is very cheap £24 and easy to get hold of. |
