|
|
I recently purchased my GTS and noted that the essential exhaust recall work had been completed and all was sweet.
I noticed that of late that the exhaust note is louder and tick over slightly higher, under a more detailed inspection i noticed that the exhaust manifold has fractured just above the temperature probe fitting. I have stopped using it until i get a replacement part, hopefully via the original warranty recall. I'm i just an unlucky t-at or has this happened to anyone else?? |

Ta m8, I have had a browse back of this section of the forum and found a previous thread regarding this issue.
I have started to chase a replacement from piaggio hopefully for nowt but its looks unlikely, you ave got to give it a go though!!
If this is a big issue and i can find more instances obviously it gives everyone more chance of getting a result out of piaggio after all the failure of this safety recall part leads to the same problem it was supposed to cure. I will keep everyone posted on how i get on. |

The recall part is the same as the pre-recall part, theyve just tacked a washer on... normally any exhaust cracks are due to fitting issues not part quality, i would guess its been tightened up too much at the front without the silencer being in the right place, so as the silencer has tightened up and pulled into the body, its put stress onto the downpipe and with getting hot and the vibration its made it crack
But if your friendly with your dealer they should be able to do one foc. |

That sounds about right to me, so I have to prove the dealer that fitted it is at fault. My local dealer have no interest in helping because it was fitted by a dealer close to the previous owner, understandable. The dealer that fitted it aint interested because it was eleven months ago and they are 120 miles away. Looking like lost cause but will keep trying the warranty route.
If my efforts fail and considering the likely high cost of a genuine part what's the quietest, least performance sapping and best fitting after market system available? |

Makes no odds who sold it, did it blah blah blah... warranty system works the same no matter what... the amount of times i hear this makes me laugh.
If worst comes to the worst, you can buy the downpipe assy seperately as part of the recall kit, with gasket and clamp.
If need be ill sort ya one under warranty, but ill need the broken one returned |

My local dealer said they could do nothing for me but gave me a contact number for piaggio. The people at piaggio said i have to get the dealer who fitted it to contact them and raise the issue. The dealer who fitted it said the parts not warranted past the point when the scooters warranty expires regardless if its 1mth or 2years years remaining when fitted. The recall part was fitted after the warranty expired so waiting for the dealer to talk to piaggio on my behalf. Its a joke to be honest, umm customer service??
If all else fails i would gratefully take up your offer.
Thanks |

Thanks mate thats a kind offer i will be in contact if i get no joy.
The dealers involved are both big motorcycle dealers who love selling scooters but loathe any repair work, unfortunitly the norm in most cases. |

Indeed its too often the case.... i see a lot of machines from other dealers where the people have brought it as its been cheaper but once the machines brought, the dealer looses the "helpfulness" and starts fobbing them off....
If ya get no luck PM me |

Interesting day, piaggio said no to covering cost of replacement part. What an own goal in customer care! The part only cost just over £20, retail price . Obviously this is now a matter of principle and not about costs and i'm continuing to pursue this issue by complaining to piaggio uk direct. I will post there response here and on every english speaking forum i can find connected to scooters. The small fish in the big pond can have a big bite with the worldwide web, lol!!! |

I had a similar problem a few years back mate.

He sorted it out for me.....
Worth a try mate _________________

I have the parts coming tomorrow only £24 for recall kit, bored of dripping need scooter sorted for weekend. Took exhaust off today what a joy it is to get the manifold of the cylinder!!! treated silencer to a coat of paint so it will look pretty when I sell it...a 300 may be a better alternative for my sp180 runner that I hung onto when I realised how poor the acceleration is on 250 in comparision !!!
Thanks again for your kind offer. |
