OK, so, spoke to Piaggio this morning, very nice people. They gave me a complaint case number and took all the details. 2 hrs later the dealer calls me to say "I don't know what you said to them but the technical engineer is coming this afternoon to look at your scooter" so I says great, about time someone sorted it out. To cut a long story short, after all that it was a faulty little end bearing. They are expecting all the necessary replacement parts in the morning and they can then tell us when we can have our scoot back, hopefull by the weekend, hurray!!!

We'll just have to see how it performs after major surgery but I can tell you that if it still isn't right, it's going back!!

Thanks for all comments and supoort, Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Hi guys,

The bad news about the 300 is that it is no quicker than a standard gts 250 - or at least the one we have tried isnt

Ok, more info: I have a GT60 with a PM pipe and my one mate has a standard GTS with a leo pipe. My other mate had a GT125. After seeing and reading about the new 300 and getting excited about the increase in torque both me and my mate with the GT125 ordered one each - both in white. My plan was to semi retire the GT60 and just use on ride outs etc - my mate fancied the 300 as he was fed up of always being last

Last thursday I picked up my mates 300 from yardley (Bham) and rode it back to Walsall as he has thrown his back out and is in agony. I didn't feel - on the ride back - that it was any quicker at all than my GT60.

Later that night we ran some tests on a few quiet roads. From a standing start the 300 is as quick but no quicker than either my GT60 or a GTS.

From 20mph - the 300 was slightly quicker than both but I mean slightly - never getting more than a foot in front of either scooter. My mate is chuffed as it is - obviously - a considerable improvement on his old GT125 and looks the dogs - really nice styling.

For me though I was really disappointed with 'the poke' and expected a lot more - whether it will improve more after 'running in' only time will tell.

So much so, next day I cancelled my 300 - even after buying a bloody new registration plate to go with it - S300 VES!

My conclusion on the 300? A lovely looking scooter and a great upgrade from a 125. If you already have a GTS250...........dont bother unless you are doing it for the aesthetics.

Me? I will wait for hopefully bigger and faster things!

I road tested one last week, indeed no difference in performance to a 250,I found the front end heavier for whatever reason,I don`t know.Aesthetically very pleasing compared to all the other models, have to agree tho,I personally can`t feel the difference of the slightly bigger motor,by the time I`ve finished playin` with my 200 it should be as quick as a standard 250 gts :wink:why bother

I think both you guys are right but no one said it would be quicker than the 250 did they? We were upgrading from a Gilera Runner VXR 200 which certainly was slower than our clubmates 250's. I gotta say it took alot of convincing for me to be talked into having an auto Vespa, I don't really like the 250's styling at all but I was pleased at the small differences made to the 300, that is the main reason I was talked round (being a woman these things matter!) If we'd had a 250 in the first place we would not have upgraded to the 300. Anyhow hopefully we'll have it back soon.

I think the 10% increase in torque right across the power band suggested it would be a tad quicker in acceleration but not top end.

Slider, are you still without that scoot ? Reject it NOW ! and get your money back, or insist on another 300.

Well we have it back and they have pretty much changed the complete engine, now gotta run it in all over again, Rich (my better half) says that its very quick on the uptake but isn't pushing it at the moment gonna give it a chance to bed in properly. Will have a better idea of it's ultimate performance when the "first" service is done again! But if it ain't right then it'll go back again as I said before. But it's really nice to know that Piaggio were very quick to respond to my call and did get something done in an incredibly quick time. So, just see how it goes now eh?

Hi Slider, and welcome Very Happy
Please keep us all informed as to how this pans-out (any ongoing problems etc) as it's always useful to know about 'real' experiences rather than the press cuttings......... Particularly the performance when run in.
I hope you & the scoot get over this blip Rolling Eyes and can now enjoy riding Vespa as you intended. It took me ages to get used to not riding with my left hand over 'the clutch' Exclamation Laughing

Poooohhhh!!! That was a sigh (?) of desperation, the 300 went back again on Satuday! Rocker gasket weeping, and the dingbats (I'm being polite) have overfilled the engine with oil by 1/4 of a litre!! Today, Monday, i rang and said I wanted a replacement or my money back. Did they ring me back, did they F""k. So i rang them again and said they wouldn't be able to ignore me (the dealers) as I am a very persistent person. They now say they can't find an oil leak anywhere!!! So, I thought OK I'll get Rich to ring then he knows what he's talking about totally. The idiots (not so polite) were looking for the leak in the wrong effin place!! So, I'm a little tadged off now. We are just gonna get the scoot back and take it to another dealers who does know what they are doing and just cut these people out of the equation. I've had enuff!!

Definately oil soaked, and the excess drains into the little clear blister thingys, there is a post goes into a lot more detail somewhere on here.

Slider sounds like your dealer is fooking hopeless! Name and shame them or their attitude and service will never improve.
