Just checked my enine oil, and its used some... is this normal for 500 kms?
Should I unscrew the filler and then check, or unscrew then just dip it back in?

They do use a bit especially if there bieng thrashed on motorways, when you unscrew the dipstick thats the level, presuming your bike is on a level surface, if the level is just showing on the bottom of the stick, it wont need much to top it up half a cup full at most, 1st service soon though eh?

Agip Racing 5W/40 is the recommended stuff nowadays... Very good oil, keeps clean for ages... but its pricey!

to read the dipstick correctly:-

scooter on level ground
remove dipstick and wipe clean
replace dipstick and screw all the way in (not just resting on top)
remove dipstick and check level (should be between "MAX" & "MIN" lines.)

personally i got fed up with all the screwing and unscrewing of the dipstick whilst checking oil, i made my own dipstick out of a couple of zip ties and copied the max and min marks onto it by cutting little "v's" into it, my home made dipstick just rests across the top of the filler tube, easy Cool

On the stand mate Rolling Eyes they dont balance so well off it, no seriously if you check it off the stand {with someone holding it level} the oil level would read more, as the back of the gts would tilt down?

yep, on the stand, on a level area (as opposed to "welded to the side of a skip at a garish angle" Laughing Laughing Laughing )

always check it like that and we know where we are, a "datum point" so to speak Cool
