Good day fellow GTS owners. The button on the inner legshield is starting to play up when I try and release the seat. The lock mechanism is well lubed but you have to repeatedly press the button and sometimes it will work. Most times I just use the manual release lever inside the toolbox now. Easily solved you think?

Its the button corroding... remove the small hatch on the top LH side of the legshield, using ya finger you can just touch the button, its got tabs you need to push in top and bottom so the switch can be pushed out the front of the panel... once its out, unplug it and youll see corrosion on the multiplugs earth wire...now strip the switch and clean it, then refit after greasing it up.

If lucky it will now work fine... if not its too late to save the switch and you need a new one... they are dirt cheap so its no major worry. Grease it before fitting it and it will never be a problem again.

You need long, thin fingers to get at it. When I had this problem I had to remove the whole glove-box section to get at it. Meant pulling the handlebars apart too. So best of luck!

my seat switch gave up working today, got it out cleaned it up applied some electrical grease and bingo all is good again Cool

bit difficult to get out as it's in a awkward position but with a bit of perseverance and patience all was good, used this good article from the modern vespa site so i had an idea of what i was dealing with:-

SEAT SWITCH REPAIR

oh and just so you know there is a small spring that locates in a hole in the button side of the switch and on a post in the other part, just be careful you don't lose it when you open the switch up.

Superb bit of info, still haven't done mine yet, packed up completely now. When I eventually get my scooter back from the dealers I'll be cleaning it up.

Mine started to go iffy, followed this and it's ok now, although it was quite badly corroded it's now working fine.

Top advice chaps Cool

I would suggest all GTS owners use some electrical grease on this switch otherwise it's just a matter of time.....

Finally got round to doing this and now works a treat. However I've found out that the 12V socket isn't wired in and it looks like the wires were just cut for some reason! I take it the red and black wires would've provided the necessary power supply?

Also does anyone know what the two other loose terminals are for?

as far as i'm aware the two connectors are for the plug and play piaggio alarm.

the other wire (i assume this was what must've been originally supplied the power to the socket fitted by the previous owner.....

perhaps the previous owner decided the wire used wasn't a high enough rating, i'm no expert on wiring but looks a bit "thin" to me Wink

if this is the case then all is not lost as the wires could be used as "fish wires" to guide the correct rated cable thru from the battery to the socket Cool
