My PM has always popped when I throttled off since I put it on.But it seems to be getting more and louder.Dosn't seem to affect performance but it is irritating.Anyone else had this and better yet, cured it .Mick. |

Hello mate yes this has come up a load of times.......
Disconnect the battery connection then reconnect turn the scoot over and let it stand ticking over for ten minutes so the ECU can work out the PM....
Then take it for a good blast Job Done....
Also check that when your scoot had its service it had all the relevant ECU updates and downloads this will also help.....
It will pop some times though if you do a mixture of short and long journeys..... Because the ECU is always trying to get you the best fuel economy.
Keep your eye on the scoot when leaving it for 10 mins ticking over |

Why the hell do piaggio fit the side stands in the first place when they are so shit? I've only used it once to show my m8.
I look like a right div when I'm taking off the center stand. The amount of times I've tooted the horn doing the whole thrusting motion, look like I'm trying to hump my scoot.
Yeah I suppose you are having a good laugh Most of you probably have no problem as you are bigger boned than me 5'6" and 9 and a half stone it's a bit of a chav sometimes - wish the side stand was reliable _________________ GTS 300 is here and I LOVE IT!!!

Claire, there so such thing as a 100% reliable side stand. They are all prone to failure. Saw a Harley topple on the way to Liege the other week 'cause the owner put it on the side stand while filling up. Almost as funny as flying past him at 85mph
I find it much easier to get the scoot off the centre stand b4 getting on. One hand on the handle bars one on the grab rail and a foot just in front of the stand, a sort of lifting forward motion from your right hand on the grab rail should do it dead easy, plus I've got my left hand near the rear brake to stop the scoot bashing on the back wall of the shed... _________________

i've got a leo vince on mine,it pops when i throttle off too,i think it sounds cool ..i think it must just be unburnt fuel or something like that,i've had the battery disconnected and tried the 10 min tick over thing,it dosen't make a difference to the little pops and backfires when you throttle off!! _________________

Popping on the overun is due to air getting into the pipe due to a leak , quite often a poor gasket fit will do it. _________________ Vespa 300 super BSA Bantam, pushbike |

Cheers all for the advise.Doing the battery thing but the gasket leak has got me thinking. My mate fitted the exhaust with a little hinderence from me and I remember using some gasket paste but for the life of me I can't remember a gasket. Dosn't seem to be blowing but I'll check it out. |

That's right mate no gasket.. just paste, your all correct .
I had a Leo Vince up until recently and that popped and farted along, but the LV's are known for this. My PM still does this and I have done the battery thing (this is covered in the PM instructions so everyone should be doing this when fitting the pipe, no?) but i still get the odd pop and fart. Is this normal all you PM vetrans???? _________________

There should be a gasket between head and downpipe on any exhaust.... the PM dont have the downpipe to silencer gasket though....
But the popping is normal, its due to having no baffle and the ECU shutting the fueling off when the throttle is closed quickly to reduce emissions... its not harmful to anything... |
