Ive had 2 PX200s, PX125, Cosa 200 and a TV175. Would you believe we had a bloke in our club once who was a Lammy man, got himself a Runner but woe betied anyone who rode a Vespa auto, as hed give them loads of grief
We now have at least 7 or 8 autos in the club, theres still some who slag em off loads but I couldnt care less. Im really enjoying my GTV, thats what counts. |

I've had over 30 scooters and motorcycles. since 1977 my first a 1967 honda c50 then a pk..........and so on.... in the last 10 yrs I've had mainly scooters. Went from vespa p210 in 2001 to an ET4-125 and have not had a geared scooter of my own since. Boy did I have some stick going to rallies on an auto...way before the birth of the "Darkside" took the abuse from small minded wankers and theres still plenty of them out there not willing to accept another persons preferences .... and thats it...your own preference ... no ones right or wrong. I now have a nexus and had about 6 maxi scoots and a GTS 250 for that matter... mine is plastic and no better or worse than any other scooter ..maxi, Vespa or geared...but its my preference as it suits me.
But it still looks like I'm with chevy , looks like i'm on another auto. |

I started in 1959 wiith a '57 GS150. Then a '61 GS150, a Rally 180 (later converted to a 200 electronic), a P200, a PX200/210, a GT200 and now a GTS250. I have always stuck with the top of the Vespa range.
And I am sick of all the business about geared/auto, two-stroke/four-stroke, traditional (whatever that means), etc. They are all scooters. Even Lambrettas!

I remember when you'd go on a rally and not see more Drags and Runners there than the odd GTS
Then when it got to Exmouth a couple of years ago and there were over 20 on the campsite I knew that they where getting accepted.
As for the non believers, fook em, I'm havin fun !!! _________________

first scoot in 83 aged 14 was a cento
a 67 v90 at 15(which i rode 2 up to skegness )
then at 16 a 50 special
i then passed my test at 17 and had a different scoot every couple of months, lammy ,vespa, cutdowns ,full frames, italian, indian, spanish you name it!!
never been without a scoot of some sort, and it was just curiosity that made me buy a runner 180 about 3yrs ago, since then i've had another tuned runner, a dragster, but then came gts and there is definatley no looking back,i'm sure that i will have more trad scoots in the future, but i won't be getting shot of the GTS _________________

50cc to a busi 1300 cc , but wish id had my gts super 300 ,years ago.
went to morecombe sat ! first time on motorway f£$%^kin awesum,
shitty day but the ride was brilliant , still waiting the 1000k service so didnt push her too hard , compare that to going belly down on a big bike or shitting yourself if you were going to get there on a trad ! remind me again why do people frown on autos

First scoot was a cutdown p2 in the glorious 80`s. Owned many p2s over the years. In 2000 had my first brief affair with the darkside when i bought a new 180 runner sp from Turners on the wirral, my what fun we had especially when i put a pm exhaust on it, however the local gendarmerie where getting very rich on my fines so i went back to p2s. Bought a seria speciale after that loved it but found myself riding it on high days and holidays. Last year decided to get rid of my car as most of you aware that running two cars is not cheap, as i needed a scoot that i could ride every day (which i have for a year now) i bought a gts 250 ie , what a joy never lets me down and its good to shock the local moped lads when they try and overtake the grandad on the shopping scooter. As mentioned in previous posts most people if they rode a gts would not look back, i love geared scoots but with my aching 40 plus bones --who needs gears !!!! |

I refused to test ride one until i had the cash to buy mine. This was purely down to my spoilt nature and the fact that i would have wanted one on the day of the test drive, but i had to wait until a few of my traditional scoots had sold.......
My first scoot was a 50 special, in 1983, and i have sold a T5 Mk1 and a P2 cutdown to buy my GTS.... |

Started off in 1985 with a 50 special with 90 engine. Then had a succession of PEs and PXs, one SX, one VBA and two early '74 indian GPs. Gave it all up in '95. Got back into it in 2001 when I did up an early Jet 200. Still got the Jet as well as a PX200 that I've had since 17.
Thing is, I've had two nasty accidents due to 40 year old technology... something I don't have to worry about on the GTS... it's about as safe a ride as you can get.
I think you'll always get the bitchin about auto riders... as Mav said... I think the moaners have a lot of insecurities about their true credentials. I'm used to the moaning, afterall I like house music and drum n bass... that doesn't go down very well either.
I've come to the conclusion that in some areas of the country, instead of scooterists being like-minded and open minded, it's the complete opposite. Scooters are about the only thing that some people have in common and little else. |

In our club, there are an increasing number of guys buying GTS's. Two of our members are hardened Lammy owners ( 0ne of whom (Mark Stevens) has just written an article in the LCGB mag 'Jet Set' on replacing a Lammy stator with a bike type alternator arrangement for better lights etc. ). Anyway, they have both bought Yamaha T-Max 500's, which just goes to show that the progress towards autos within the scooter scene is slowly moving forward. I wouldn't part with my Lammy, but it's more for recreational use now rather than practical. |

Blimey, lots to read from one simple question! Amazing how after so many years of the modern scooter scene there are still people out there who think that only certain types of scooters, music etc can be accepted as part of the scene.
I've been at it continuously since 1892, done hundreds of thousands of miles on scooters (only passed my car test in 2000!), and to me the GTS is just an addition to my small collection. I'm looking forward to getting some serious mileage out of it.
Technically, it's the best Vespa made to date, and whether some people like it or not, I believe it will soon replace the P range as 'the workhorse of Europe'.
If the mods in the 60's could have chosen between an LI150 and a Vespa GTS300, which do you think they would have gone for?

i look at my GTS as a beast of burden, a "21st century donkey" it's just there to get me where i'm going, no frills, no fancy bits, it's just there to do a job _________________
