We've got four autos in our club and as expected we get the usual narrow minded comments. One comment was that auto riders have no scootering history and we're not proper scooterists! So I'm curious to find out what you used to ride or indeed still ride before you turned to the darkside and when you started out?
I traded in my 1970 GP, and still have a 1957 LD in my garage. Oh and I started out at 16 in 87 on a pk50!

these sort of comments usually come from people who are insecure about themselves
does riding a geared scooter automatically mean the rider has a scootering history??? no, i bet there are more "trad" riders with no previous background than there are auto riders with no previous background
and what does it matter if riding an auto gets someone into scootering as a way of life??????? the scene needs new blood in whatever way we can get it or it'll just be one old bloke on an immaculate italian sx200 standing in a field on his own
is someone with no scootering history who buys a p range more accepted in your club than an auto rider who' been in the scene for 20 years? _________________

I'm sad to say but it seems that would be the case. We've a lot of "weekend play things" rather than workhorse riders I still think that if they had the balls not to follow the in crowd and actually ride a gts they'd soon change their attitude. It's been a bit of an eye opener the reactions and comments that have been made to us just because we dare to ride modern Vespas! |

I know a number of people who steadfastly refuse to test ride a GTS, becuse they KNOW that they'll want one ! |

Dont think im gonna bother trying to put in my 20+ years of trad scooters in this small space.
My 3 years or so of auto's has been great. Only had the 2, and i still have the runner. My lammy was sold this year. Dont miss it at all. _________________

Never owned a trad scoot.
Love them but never had one for many reasons.
Bought an Aprilia Habana Custom 125 about 5 years ago and was bitten.
Took my full test and went onto big bikes for a while.
I then fell for the GTV 250.
Back in the early 80's i was a Mod......no scoot but loved the clothes, music etc.
Had my family very early which never left any spare cash for scoots and the like. Could barely afford me mortgage, car etc!
Does that make me unwelcome?
If it does then........................f**k 'em. |

We've got two GTS owners in our club - the rest are all tuned lammy riders.
Bet you can't guess which faction can do 80mph+ all the way to a rally and back without having to listen to for the minutest change in engine tone and having to carry an AA card?
In my time I've owned an Li150, TV175 Ser2, 2 LD's, a Lambretta chopper, a T5 (round headlight), and a P200disc (not in that order mind) before moving on to a Runner 180 (killed it!) and now the GTS.
Do I have any less scootering heritage than the current crop of Lammy/P-Range owners? Who gives a toss!
I'm enjoying myself more now than ever thanks to a machine with a high top speed and ultra reliability (well, apart from the scorpion pipe!!). |

Hi guys, Just done my first 850 kms on the GTS 300 (will comment on it in another post.
Concerning current and past rides, here it goes:
Current:
1964 TV175 winter
1967 SX200
1970 DL200
1972 GP225 TS1
1974 Jet200
1974 Rally200
1976 Rally200
1997 PX200
Past:
TV175 series 2 & 3
LI125 series 2
LI150 Silver Special (Spanish)
GS160 Mk1
SS180
T5 (three of them)
P200 (two of them)
Sprint 150
As you can see I've been through a fair few bikes, latest being the GTS and in my opinion it continues in the tradition of classic scooters, its got some of the disadvantages of traditional scooters, but it also has a lot of advantages. Some friends definitely don't get the GTS but I'm sure they'll come round sooner or later!!
Here's a pic of some of my current rides:
regards,
Mick |

I was stripping my GTS last week at a dealers ready for vinyl wrapping when a 'Scooterist' came to the dealers. He quickly started taking the piss about the plastic scoot, how horrible it looked, it's not a proper scooter etc. and how much he loves his PX (no doubt with low mileage and an assortment of bathroom ornaments fitted) The usual sort of rubbish. Then he promptly told me he was just on his way to Hemsby with 9 other members of his club in the club mini bus! Tosser.
I ride and have ridden pretty much everything over the past 21 years, I only usually own a couple of scooters at a time though and currently have the GTS and a PX 210 full Malossi job. I love both scooters but for different reasons and I'm sure there will always be a trad scoot as well as an auto in the garage. I've done 7,000 miles on the GTS without even changing a spark plug (yes I know it needs a service or at least an oil change and it will get one in the next few weeks) I simply fill it up and thrash it everywhere without any hassle. _________________ I love hairdryers...
