Guys,

I know this was done to death when the GTS came out initially, when you lot started tinkering with tuning, but there now seems to be many different opinions on this, so I'll ask the question again.

What's the best variator, rollers and drive belt setup if I want to get some more ooomph? My scoot (GTS) is currently standard with a Leov exhaust.

as innocenti said,

i had this set up and just fitted a brand new standard variator (both halfs) with a new standard belt and the dr pully sliders and there is no real difference in the top speed,

fit a 140/70/12 rear tyre aswell and you will notice the improvement

Don`t use a Polini variator, removed one last month and the sliding tube had disintegrated causing corrosion on the tube itself, this is the second one I have removed and found the same problem, they rely on grease in between two wiper seals for lubrication not a good idea in practice when you consider all the belt dust that flies around in the casing, buy yerself a Malossi variator with self lube steel tube, never seen a problem and we`ve fitted loads of them.In this case cheaper is not better.

Ah but dont you think that scootering is biased towards the dealers that are handing out the freebies for test, the only reason the Polini variator was tested woz because PM dont sell the Malossi version, have now tried both in just about every 50cc engine, all the GT range and both runner and Dragster and Malossi wins hands down and holds on to the power further up the rev range,if you did and fitted wot PM suggested in the comic feature you will hit the rev limiter too easily11.8, try 14 grms and you will be somewhere near peak performance Wink

Spot on mate some will say the dyno testing done in the mag must be right but I have had both on the scoot and find the malossi with 14grm rollers superior Cool Cool Cool You are also spot on about it holding the power further up the rev range Very Happy Very Happy

would we need to change the hugger if we were to fit a Schwable raceman140/70/12 rear tyre?

if so which hugger should we be looking for and how much would we have to pay for such a thing?
