|
|
I need help. I've just bought a scorpion pipe for my GTV, given that my mileage is low I considered the scorpion to be ok with me not travelling long distance therefore the heat issue shouldn't effect me so much.
I know these question may sound daft but i'm asking anyway
1 - The standard exhaust is a bugger to remove, what am I doing wrong, what tools do you recommend
2 - When I connect the scorpion do I reconnect the sensor to the downpipe
3 - Should I give up and visit a garage to get it fitted
I'm pissed off to be honest pipe arrives today and I can't get the original exhaust off, hope you experienced guys can help |

You need torx drivers to remove the bolts holding the chamber of the exhaust to the engine (although some GTS's seem to have allen bolts). You will need an extension bar and a uni joint to remove the nuts keeping the manifold end on, a small drive socket (1/4") will be best. you can disconnect the lamda sensor from the loom before you remove the exhaust. Careful when removing the sensor it's expensive! You'll also need high temp gasket paste for assembling the exhaust. If you haven't got the tools it may be just as well getting your dealer to do it (depending how much he charges i suppose)
The link below should help, it's shows fitting of a PM but you get the idea!

disconnect the lamba sensor at the electrical connector (trace the wire up to the connector, slide the connector off it's mounting arm and unclip it) then remove the exhaust, once the exhaust is off the scooter then unscrew the lamba sensor from the exhaust. _________________

as babyarms said
but it would be worth changing the studs and nuts
for stainless lambretta ones
a great idea thanks Smirnoff
just for the piece of mind against seizing
i had to put my u pipe in a vice to get the lamba sensor out
watch it when you reinstall it you can crack the scorpian one
around the sensor boss
the can sometimes sits to close to the rear layshaft
and needs spacing (thanks Mav)
fit all together loose and then tighten up so it isnt under under any stress
i had mine six months, had a upipe crack (replaced under warenty)
now got a PM |

That is a good idea about the stainless studs and nuts.
One of the recall GTS's was totally corroded and eventually we had to give up, remove the engine to get the head off and sort it right out.

ordered some lammy stainless exhaust studs and brass nuts from a well known veaspa/lambretta mail order dealer when my neighbour put a large order in for his key top PX rebuild..........................
they sent std ones instead as they were out of stock
oh well in the rally spares bag they went...... _________________

got mine from MB Developments (01709 869756), bit expensive but got what I aked for. I ordered three sets for our boys as a way to keep the costs down. For reference you need standard M7 Lambretta exhaust studs and also I bought the standard Brass nuts too. They are 11mm AF not 10mm that the original nut were. If you have a PM they are a little harder to get on because of this but if you grind down a 11mm socket wall like Buddyphil did for us then it is a lot easier. It would be an idea to buy a couple of spare nuts too as you are bound to loose one or you could even help a stranded lammy owner or two _________________
