I was wondering if any body knows a good battery replacement for my scooter.
As we all know the batteries that we have at the monment are a load of rubbish.
I was hoping that somebody might know of a good gel battery
replacement as they are almost maintainence free and last for years?
look forward to your comments

You could use an optimate connected up to the battery at nights _________________ Vespa 300 super BSA Bantam, pushbike |

The biggest battery killer is lack of inital conditioning... but its often nothing you can do about it as you get the battery on the bike....
If its a GTS250 with a normal battery (ie not sealed) then regularly check the levels and top up as and when needed, ensure its never allowed to drain totally flat, leaving on an optimate is good, but even just once a month will help by taking the battery back up to its maximum level. |

If its a 300 its a sealed YTX jobbie so doesnt need topping up... if conditioned well from new and occasionally charged to full capacity they should give 5 years trouble free life... |

My 250 has been stood for a week due to black ice on the village roads here, after fueling up first thing it was a pig to start and didn't want to idle. Same again tonight when leaving work. Checked the battery tonight and every cell was very low, only about 1cm of fluid at the bottom! Topped up with cold distilled water and hoping for the best. I let the scoot idle for 15 mins after connecting battery back up. Could the battery still be servicable? |

My battery is dead! I'm not gonna bother getting a charger for it as it was obviously not looked after prior to me getting the scoot. Can I replace it with a sealed type? If so what price am I looking at? |

To be honest, your better off getting the same one as is fitted as std.
You could replace it with the 300 one, but you need the battery tray, strap and cover as well.
Just remember the battery needs checking more often and they last fine. |

You're probably right! I couldn't believe the cell levels when I checked them. How much will the standard one cost? |

£25-£35 quid depending where ya go... local battery centres are normally cheaper than bike shops... |

Cheers, it's too cold to go down to the garage and lift it out to see what spec it is, any idea off hand what I should be replacing it with? |
