As some of you may know I finished work yesterday for the last time, so until I find something else I want to put my time to good use. Obviously the missus has me with paint brush in hand but my suggestion on Mavers thread 'Sad News..', was a serious one, I would like to organise a charity ride in aid of Help 4 Heroes.
Obviously the aim of this is to raise as much money as possible for this most worthy of causes. I guess one of the first things that needs to be decided on is a route, I mentioned LE 2 JoG off the top of my head, but I have been thinking would we raise more on a shorter route? For example say 1 or 2 people do the 800 miles plus on LE2JoG would that raise more than 15 of us going coast to coast, Liverpool to Hull for example. To get an idea of what I'm going to work towards I need to know who (if anyone) would be able & prepared to join me in either event. So I have created a little poll for you to answer. I will for now assume those who say yes to LEJoG would also do Coast 2 Coast.
I have always wanted to ride LEJoG so I'm biased towards that, but if we did coast to coast I have 2 spare beds and can throw my tent up in the back garden plus there's room for another 2 man tent, for anyone travelling get it done on a Sunday should take 3 hours or so to do Liverpool to Hull.
LEJoG has far more of a challenge to it, and we could well get coverage in Scootering & Tag magazines which would help to put the charity in scooterists minds and would benefit the charity in increased publicity.
Please let me know your thoughts _________________

Here is another idea that I've always fancied and would like to do some time over a long weekend........... The Five Nations tour England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland & Wales.
Anything to raise money for a worthy cause like H4H would go down well in my opinion

Well it's 837miles from Lands End to John O Groats, so I'd reckon 2 and a half days riding. Someone said on the other thread they'd done it, how long did it take you if your reading this?? _________________

we also have to take into account we've got to get to land's end for the start and then back from john o'groats at the end, total distance for me would be 1842miles
Kings Lynn to Lands end 397miles
l.e. to j.o.g. 836miles
j.o.g to K.L. 609miles _________________

No doubt it's a big commitment and will prob take at least 5 days given travel to and from start and finish. Google maps gives me 1,717 miles for my round trip.
It's what's best for H4H that is my primary concern, if more people are able to do coast 2 coast, we can still approach Scootering and TAG for coverage and have a better chance of increased sponsorship, a wider audience.
Was thinking Southport to Brid would be the best coast to coast run I can think of...
I have downloaded the H4H fund raising booklet, so I will read through that over the next week and start to see how we can make some real plans for this. _________________

When were you thinking of doing the Coast to Coast?
Only asking because the Yorkshire Alliance have done it the last couple of years.
Here are the details from earlier this year > http://www.yorkshirealliance.co.uk/c2c2.htm _________________ |

We left Lands End on a Sunday so had to travel down on the Saturday.
Got to John O'Groats on the Wednesday afternoon.
That was on P'ranges and a couple of lammies so you can cut the time down for GTS's.
Averaged just over 200 miles a day with the longest leg being 280 miles.
I said after that never again but.............
And it is for a very good cause _________________ Hey ho,twist'n'go! |

Great response guys (which I knew it would be ).
I'm thinking judging by the numbers in the poll that LEJOG is the way forward, next 2 questions are:
1. Do we go north to south or south to north?
2. When? I was thinking early spring, just as the clocks have gone forward, giving more daylight and hopefully better weather.
What would be nice is if we had a core of riders doing the whole trip, but others join in for a 'local leg' i.e. Scottish members ride part way through Scotland etc. _________________
