Only had my new gts for a few months. Took it out today for short trip in cold weather 'near freezing' temp'. Back end was slipping away around corners only on a slight lean, dry road. Is this due to the type of tyres fitted as std or would any tyre lose grip until warmed up. What tyre model is the best allrounder to use ? |

for what its worth ! scoots are notorius for back end skids , weight distribution wrong _ compared to a motorbike , treat with respect ! this is the kind of weather that your on yer arse before you know it , no matter what tyres go round corners upright, avoid brakes and keep off the kin white road markings, and you may just survive the winter Grasshopper

What tyres you running?
I found the standard ones that came with the GTS absolutely horrendous for grip.
Get em changed to something more sticky - Michelin Pilot Sports seem to be the tyre of prefernece on here. |

I was out and about on the standard Pirellis and the handling was fine once warmed up. I have never found scooters to be inclined to rear end slides more than a conventional motorcycle athough I have had the rear end stepping out on an x9 500 but that was at silly speeds and on poor surfaces. It may be worth checking the tyre pressure? _________________ Vespa 300 super BSA Bantam, pushbike |

Sava tyres are complete shite. The neutral gap and lack of clutch doen't help control much either. But saying that, the 2 times I've had the back step out was crossing mounds of salt on roundabouts. |

some GTs's come with sava's some with michelin or pirelli, depends who's doing the best deals when piaggio do their purchasing
sava are fairly shite, depends on WHICH michelin or pirelli get put on but as said michelin pilot sport is tried and tested, once scrubbed in and warmed up
some say shwable tyres are good they may be worth a go, just watch you get the right speed rating _________________

Dont worry too much the Savas will only last for 3500miles MAX! on the rear, trouble is you cant have sticky tyres and long life! Ive got Hiedenau K61 Racer tyres on mine, the rear looks good for another 2000miles and already done 3500miles now, as has been said many times before though, its a personal choice. _________________ GTS250 its the future!!!
