Yes I know, I seem to have a fetish with fitting foglights to every scooter I've owned. Embarassed

I trial fitted these to see how they look.

Which do you think looks the best positioning:
A)close together
B)far apart
C)or somewhere inbetween?

Think I'm going for A or C
A)

B)

C)

I'm saying B too but probably cause they are most in line Rolling Eyes
A would probably be cool but since they are not on I'm not feeling the effect.

i like c only because they follow the flow of a inverted dart shape ! maybe the most ineffective as a set of working lights , but the most pleasing to the eye ( well mine anyway ) i think its important to keep that streamlined effect.

I think B or C... C doesnt look much different to B to be honest...

The question really is why do you need foglights on it?? How often will you ever actually use them??? Probably get used 3 times a year on my car...

I would also watch the power useage if your wiring high power lights in... especially if youve got it wired for all 4 lights on main...

I live in the hills on the edge of the Moors. We get a fair bit of low cloud, which is quite dense as well as the normal fog.

Plus when we do have reduced visability, I want to do my best to be seen and to see.

Headlights haven't been converted so only 2 on at a time. I had thought about changeing the fog light 55w H3 bulbs to 35w H3's to be on the safe side. But I did notice that the charger socket under the seat says "max 180w", so 2 x 55w bulbs should be ok. Am I right in thinking that Confused

Nooooo the 180W max is nothing to do with the bikes capabilitys, its the insulation rating of the item.

Adding another 2 55w lights will be pulling another 9amps from the charging system which is touch and go for the charging system to handle for a long period... if you had them on i wouldnt have ANY other accessory on at the same time especially heated grips...

Oooooo, that's a bit misleading then isn't it? Shocked

Anyone else thought the same as me? Embarassed

So, swapping the bulbs for the 35w, would only be the same as having the headlight mod done then in theory. The only other thing I ever have plugged in is the satnav. And if needed, that could be unplugged and run of int' battery if it was foggy Confused

Nah satnav would be fine as it pulls hardly nothing... far less than an amp.

Yeah if you didnt have the double light mod you should be fine... especially as like the high beams, you dont have them on all the time, so even if its a struggle it will get plenty of chance to fully recharge next ride out.

Cheers CT. Wink

By the way can you briefly explain the insulation rating? as in the 180w.

The wiring upto the lighter unit will only take upto 180w.. (15amp max).. Doesnt mean you can pull 15amps all day long and not have a problem...its just saying dont pull anything more than that from that socket.

A 10amp fuse doesnt mean you can pull 10amps, it means 10amps or more and itll blow...

If you pop over to JimCs wormeworry site and download the workshop manual, and take a read it will tell you the max charge rate the alternator can give, and if i remember right its 20amps.

With dipped headlights alone youll be pulling just over 10amps (2x55w main, 1x5w side and 2x 5w rear sides and 1x5w number plate light) this leaves a further 10amps spare for engine running, fuel pumps, indicators, suspension and all the dash lights etc....

Another 2x 55w foglights will pull another 9amps themselves.

So chances are it wont be putting in as much as its taking out... not a problem with the main beam mod as you dont use main beam for long periods or very often.... however foglights could be the entire journey, which could lead to non-start the other end.

Here ya go.... Upto 20amps as i thought.

Im not saying you can fit them, and if wired properly to the battery via a switched 30amp fused relay then nothing will be harmed... just you have to consider that your not careful a battery without enough to restart the bike is possible after a ride with it all working.
