Ive never found anyone who can blend modern metallic laquered paints well enough to make touching up such a larger area a viable option... we have a chap who does all our work who is proper decent and even he wont do it as he wouldnt put his name too it.
If its minor he will often paint a section upto bodylines, so the variation is hidden, when he did the last GTS for us, he painted a rear side cowling, and went to the join line on the rear light, down to the plastic trim and along as far as the join line in front of your feet and it was ok as the join line is hidden by the panels weld line anyway.
But even if you did that on this one, so much is damaged you would end up painting 80% of the bike as its one side, floor panel, front panel, and mudguard... you might as well do the other side as well and paint the lot and have no problems with paint shade variation.
The prep time wouldnt be too hard, the rear cowling isnt too badly dented, so chances are they could fill and paint it as it is, if they get badly dented our bodychap likes to pull the dents out and flatten them as much as possible before filling, which means dropping the engine out so the fuel tank can be removed as its right beside that side panel...
If your gonna paint it with engine in, youll spoil about 2.5 hours ripping all the external parts away to do a good job, then another 2.5 hours to stick it all back together again.... |

Yeah when i got the smart done glittery for the missus it was done properly, inside etc...
But on a GTS they only paint the bits you see anyway, so if its getting repainted for insurance purposes, just the outside will more than do....especially as it will be the same colour anyway. |

Scoots a write off lads had a call today and the fella said the labour costs and parts needed made it uneconomical to repair, should recieve a call tuesday with an offer off the ins company.
To be fair the guy said it was clearly mint prior to the accident and suggested buying it back and getting it done myself he went on to say that they're usually pretty fair with the offers.I've got it valued with them at 2k,any ideas what sort of percentage a buy it back price is?
This is the first time I've ever claimed on motor ins let alone a write off claim
I'd be gratefull for any pointers here fellas _________________ Darren |

Buying it back isnt a fixed percentage anymore, so it can be anything from 10% to 70%.. wait for the call and see what they say... also dont be afraid to refuse the 1st offer they make. |

as i said before do your sums what do you think it could be fixed for if they have said its worth 2k and are going to give you that then i would start by offering them 500 for it i do this in the car trade every week but you have to see what you think you can get it done for and like us all the ins companys are feeling the crunch too i think the cheeky boy could give you a good idea to the cost to repair it if say it was 1500 just for the sake of saying then you offer them what you think if they agree then you,ll have your scoot back on the road at no cost to you or take the 2k put the rest and buy another one and give me the phone number of the company but let us know how you get on good luck there try to pay you as little as poss but they dont want the hassel of the scooter _________________ VILA LA QUINTA BRIGADA |
