Bike starts & runs fine for 30 minutes, then will stall everytime one stops after this time. Will start again with a bit of throttle on & runs fine from 10mph upwards.

Idle screw has no effect, injector replaced, fuel pump & filter checked, exhaust not leaking.

All ideas welcome.

What bike is it?? as im confused....

Youve said it has an idle screw, so i assume its a carb model like a GT200 but then you mention an injector so that makes it a GTS or GTV??

The GTS has no idle speed screw, theres an adjusted on the throttle body, but its not to set idle speed its to set the throttle potentiometers position to a closed throttle position... DO NOT ADJUST IT!

Sounds like it needs a trip to a diagnostic machine, and someone who can use one and understand what it means Wink

Where abouts in the world are you?

Thanks Cheeky. If I was anywhere near Lowestoft I would come & see you, I'm in West London.

The bike. Well I guess I may have commited a sin. It's a 2002 Gilera Runner with a 2007 250 GTS engine with external fuel injection. Too late with the potentiometer screw its been on the move.

After riding 70Km on the bike today, it's not so much stalling on idle, it will idle, but as soon as you open the throttle it dies unless you increase the throttle very slowly. Booked it in for a diagnostic next week with my friendly Piaggio dealer, though I'm not always convinced they can deal with subtle problems.

Is it the GTS injection system or an aftermarket set-up Question

Cheeky

Unfortunateley you can't use the GTS integrated filter, pump, regulator with a standard Runner tank. The solution is a 3 piece external system. This uses a free flow injection filter, pump & seperate pressure regulator with return tank dump. This has been running without fault since installed. It delivers a constant 2.5 bar pressure @ the injector.

Im talking about the injection system.... not the pump, thats just fuel supply.

Is it running the GTS injection module, injector and oxygen sensor set up... can you still interface with the ECU for updates etc?

Yes everything is standard apart from the fuel supply.

There was an ECU firmware revision last year for stalling issues, so its worth checking the programming is upto date...

... then a simple check on a diagnostic box will soon reveal the culprit.

(dont forget to reset the throttle potentiometer zero position as well if youve twiddled it thinking its a tickover screw)

Thanks.
If my dealer can't sort it out it might be a lowestoft expedition.

Most likely culprit is failed injector... Seeing more and more appear nowadays, always keep running, but get a little rough round the edges.

My GTS occasionally stalls, I asked the dealer who serviced it if the ECU firmware had been updated & he says that there haven't been any updates.

It's an 06 model & they want £20 to check the ECU firmware, is it worth doing??

Yet another dealer with no idea on how to use the equipment, Or the dealernet system... Yes chances are it needs an update if it's a 2006 bike on original software.

As for paying someone who doesn't even know about the updates, stuff that go elsewhere! It annoys me so much at times... Think I'm turning into a grumpy old man? Embarassed

What annoys me is that they should have done it on one of the services that the previous owner had done at that very dealer..... Shocked
