Hello, just stumbled across your forum on the web.
I have a 2007 GTS and my wife has an ET2. I had to buy the GTS as she was sick of me riding her scoot all of the time!

Sorry, the first pic I posted was a dud. No bigger than the avatar!
This one is a bit better.
Since this pic was taken I've put chrome mirrors on the ET2 and a canvas top case on the GTS.

Thanks fo rthe welcome.
Innocenti, the GTS is pretty expensive here as there is one Australian distributor who sees the Vespa as a premium brand (......can't argue with that) but as a result no discounts. Also a limited dealer network with about 2 dealers in each major city makes it very hard to get anything off recommended retail.
I told the dealer here I've never paid full retail price for anything in my life! I think in the end I came away with about $400 off.......better than nothing I suppose but I got a bigger discount on my frigging new fridge!
By the time I'd licensed and insured it comprehensive, put on the crash bars, flyscreen, floormat and canvas top case the total was about A$10k.
Gavskin, there are plenty of scoots around Perth, but most people run a car as well, so many scooters get put away in winter. It would also depend on where your cousin was staying, Perth is very spread out but you see a lot more scooters in the inner city and close suburbs. Scooters of less than 50cc can be ridden here in Western Australia on a car license, so small capacity scoots are by far the most common here. That includes plenty of cheap Chinese junk.

Hi and welcome Tinman
So $10K, how much does that equate to UK sterling?
I went to Sydney about 19 years ago and there were a few geared scoots about then, don't remember seeing a single auto though, were they even around then!!! A couple of Honda c90 semi's
Anyhoo, welcome to the site

$10k is about 4,200GBP, give or take a few quid.
I think you get them quite a bit cheaper. The RRP is $8790 (about 3,770 GBP) including GST (your VAT), but by the time you license, insure and cover some extras I think it added close to $1k onto the price out the door.
For me it was a toss up between the dragon red and the new yellow. Anyone on the forum have a yellow beast yet? I'm pretty happy with the red, but was thinking of getting a yellow GTS and powder coating the wheels black.
Scoot sales have boomed in Oz over the last 3 years or so. I don't know why it has taken so long to catch on because we've got great weather almost all year round. Sales are only up 15% or so this year, but this is on top of a 43% increase last year. Apparently scoot sales here have tripled in the last 3 years!
I think that reasons for the increase are is worsening traffic in the cities, parking charges going through the roof, increased environmental awareness, some increase in fuel prices, and last but not least, people waking up to how much fun scooters are.
Ten years ago your average Aussie wouldn't have ever considered buying a scoot. Even a car with less than 6 cylinders was only considered ok for a second car! |

That's it then, I'm off to Oz.
Who wants a good deal on an established UK scooter shop? |

Thanks guys. Seriously, if you are a scooter mechanic I think that you would have no dramas finding work here. |
