To revisit an old problem, me and Buddy phil had the headstock off today to inspect the top steering column bearings, Both the locking ring and the bearing ring where finger tight or should I say loose. Regreased and tightened and so far no wobble at all. Its early days yet to say wheather this has solved the trouble as I have'nt rode it loaded but it looks promising, I took both hands off this afternoon without any sign of trouble, something I wouldn't dream of doing before.

Also thanks to Phil who ground the tip off the suspension spanner and made a perfect spanner for the bearing rings, It now does two jobs. Wink

I was quite excited reading this last night, thought I'd solve my wobble as well. Took the headset off today and it looked promising when the top locking nut was loose. Regreased the bearings, locked em up tight, put it together and it still pissing wobbles! Looks like a trip to Russ when I get a mo.

Finally got round to wiring the Tom Tom in though whilst I was at it, only a two minute job.

mind u aside from the steering wobble, its a bit worrying to find the headstock bearings are finger tight/loose, another poor show from piaggio Sad

I also have a wobble. Newly fitted tyres (Conti twists ), properly inflated and balance should be OK. Front end wobbles like mad if you let go of the bars.

I had the headset off (plastic cover front and back), and checked that the D-ring nut was ultra tight, but I couldn't see or get access to the bearing top. Should this be easy to see and access? Any pics??

There is a post on the Modernvespa site about headstock bearings, and the tools needed to do the job correctly.

Just pop it to your local mot station and ask em to check the bearings, they will soon be able to tell if they are too tight or too loose.. Wink
