the first service is overdue on my gts,so i went to my local piaggio dealer to see how much it was gonna cost me, they(AR motorcycles,in lowestoft) quoted me £120,which i thought was a bit steep,so i called Kendal and pitt in colchester ,where i bought it from!! they said £90, so just out of curiosity,i called Orwell motorcycles in Ipswich, they said if i had bought it from them the 1st service would have been free, but as i hadn't ,it would be about£65....all piaggio dealers 3 different prices, surely there should be a set price for these services, just wondered if anyone else have had the same sort of experience?? _________________

Set price!!!!!
Would you want folks dictateing what you could charge if you had a business?????
I charge £80 but you get your moneys worth of copper grease that we don't do on PDI.

Easy tigers i work at ARs
For bikes we sell its a fixed price of £35 for first service as i know its been PDI'd properly and well copper slipped etc, but when its from another dealer its 2 hours plus parts hence approx £115 as normally they tend to be right dogs and had nothing done at PDI apart from having a number plate fitted.
If i dont go through it properly, and spend the time getting it to a level im happy with putting my name too, then the only person to get blamed when something happens is whoever last serviced it, not the person before who PDI'd it but did nothing...
Sorry it seems like we are trying to con ya as we honestly aint, just without knowing what was done during the PDI, the 1st service can vary so much.... i know a bike ive PDI'd is easy, but from an other dealer its all an unknown, ive had some that ive basically had to PDI all over again!
If it came from Russ or JTs when new then the boss would allow a £35 1st service as i know they do the job right at PDI as ive seen bikes from both them previously... so without having to take it all apart i know its been done... and dont need to double check everything.
Its another one of the common overlooked things theres PDIs done in 20mins and theres PDIs that take half a day... the difference is huge... how can a non-supplying dealer tell which yours has had without taking it apart and finding out?? |

only asking !
as gav said it's only ment to be an oil and filter change!!
and i thought that the difference between the 3 piaggio dealers i got quotes from were a bit inconsistent!!
after all i'm only a customer looking for a good service at a good price, and a dealer who i can go back to when i need! _________________

Parts prices should remain fairly constant as they are fixed by piaggio, however service costs are down to the garage and there labour rate... labour rates vary loads, from £25 per hour upto £65 a hour round lowestoft area, so 1 hours work can be many different prices....
First service is much more than just an oil change... its a full bike inspection, along with oil change, gearbox oil change, brake inspection, steering adjustment etc etc... book time is listed as 60mins.
Its really best to get services done from the supplying dealer, as they know what theyve done... and if theyve missed anything its only themselves theyve made trouble for....
... why havent you taken it to the supplying dealer?? Whats happened thats lost your customer loyalty?? Or is it just too far now for servicing?? |

Our £35 for bikes we sell is fairly decent in my opinion, you certainly get a lot more for it than dealers in our surrounding area... |

i was just looking around to see what my options were as there are 2 piaggio dealers closer to where i live(compared to the shop that supplied mine).
but after starting this thread i think i will take it back to the supplying dealer, they aren't the cheapest, but they should know what they done pre delivery,.....i didn't realise there was so much involved!! but that why sites like this are so good!! _________________

well phil like thomas said, I paid £35 for my first service from a&r's. Its a bit unfair that kendel wont give you a reduced fee like a&r's and orwells, after all they did take three and half grand off u! _________________ Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
