Ian, start up your scoot with the red master key. Switch off, and immediately put in your new key and start the engine again. Hey Presto ! it should now be programmed. Try starting it again later with the new key to make sure all is o/k. |

Are you sure that the new key has a transponder chip fitted ? I think you got it from Cheeky Thomas, so it should have. Otherwise, it's possible that the vacant slots in the E.C.U have been used so it won't accept any more keys. I'll check my owners handbook to see what it says, meanwhile it might be worth asking the question on the modernvespa site to see if anyone else has a solution ?? |

Ian, have a look on the Modernvespa site, in the Technical Library section, the procedure is in there. If that does'nt help, I suggest that you may have a problem with the transponder chip in the key. |

Most modern cars and bikes that have transponder type immobiliser systems fitted, usually have ECU's that will store about 6 different keys. All the keys are able to start the engine, but have slight electronic differences so that each member of the family can have their own key. On some cars, when you switch on the ignition, the seat, steering wheel and mirrors all adjust to your personal settings. This information is picked up off 'your' key. This is why I said that the slots could be full ? If this was the case, the ECU would have to be wiped clean with the Vespa diagnostic tool and re-programmed. |

Ian, are you definitely sure that your key has a transponder chip in it ? If not, I will get you a blank key with a transponder from our local suppliers. |

Yes its a transponder key... its a genuine Vespa one
If you look on the metal shaft of the key you will see a symbol on it like a triangle telling you its a transponder key...
Your not coding it right thats all... even i struggle at times.
The trick is SPEED... no not the drug, i mean time...
Master Key in and on for 2 secs then off and out...
New key in and on for 2 secs then off and out....
Then master key back in and on for 2 secs...
It should now be programmed... so try the new key and all should be fine.
If not repeat as sometimes it takes a few goes, the timing is super critical. |
