TIPS FOR COMING OUT OF HIBERNATION
Well soon enough there will be great warmth across our beloved nation and the sun shall rise once again warming the faces of all GTS riders.
Has any one got any tips for getting the scoot ready for the new season?
Mine are:
Tire condition and pressure
Brakes check they work and check the levels
Check all the coolant levels
Check for leaks of these same fluids.
Lights indicator and horn
Test that the throttle moves freely, does not stick and snaps closed when released.
Suspension
Have a good look around the bike looking for lifting paint, cracks, or dents.
Give it a good clean with lots of clean water
If you removed your battery over the winter, install it Check the battery to make sure the terminals are clean and tight, it’s properly charged and secured. Check the vent tube to confirm it is not kinked or plugged, and is routed properly.
What do you do?……………… _________________ Simon Cuerden

Oh forgot, I would not use the same fuel if it was sat for longer than two months and I change the oil. _________________ Simon Cuerden

...ride it all year so i dont have this problem
my tip would be have it on the road for at least a month before a long distance rally as it wont be good for it if you bring it out and thrash it straight away _________________

my tip is to ride all year, then your a real scooterist....
and you also get used to the cold and wet, so if it is cold and wet, your not botherd!
and you'll have more expeience of bad weather riding than those part time knobs that only ride on sunny days.
3000 miles a year (if that) and they crash, when i did 21000 last year with only one close call, its coz they can't ride or have been off the road too long.
the best riders are the ones that ride constantly. theyre the ones that are prepared for everything and know what knob heads in cars are gonna do. _________________ revolution deathsquad! |

Didn’t really want this post to turn into a “Fair weather rider or not” debate, I kinda wanted to see if there was any real good to know tips for the transition from winter to summer?
Reality is that not every one rides all year round, so let’s get this thread off the ground. _________________ Simon Cuerden

if you disconnect the battery for the winter months i wonder when you replace it you would have to let bike run for a while so the ECU sorts its self out ?????????????
only prob i have for riding all year round is the amount of rear tyres i get threw !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ GTS OWNERS CLUB

A mate of mine on The IOW is convinced that you should allow your GTS to tick over for 10 mins every time you change the exhaust system or start up after a prolonged halt? He says that this allows the system to re calibrate? Mind you he also told me that he shagged Samantha Janus so I am not sure what to believe? I do know one thing for sure and that is that I’d ride Samantha Janus like fookin Seabiscuit
Oh and by the way, Ian Brown is a god! _________________ Simon Cuerden

agree with your m8
change / remove exhaust let it tickover for 10 mins

I rolled my Little Deuce Coupe out of the garage all set to ride the 35 miles to Manchester with my wife on the back. I got no more than five foot (thank fook) and my back tyre completely deflated!
I pushed her back into the garage and inspected the tyre the tread had completely worn through, I had done some serious miles on her and it was the arse end of the run season.
Basically I didn’t appreciate the speed of the GTS and of course the wear of the tyre is more than on, dare I say, my lambretta (Yes I know I’m old).
My stupid fault, but I had averted a potentially tragic accident by sheer luck.
Tyres are very important, not only do the separate us from the road, they need to be in good knick and pumped up to the correct pressure.
Question: I have fitted a Malossi Mulitvar 2000 Variator Kit plus the usual goodies, should my tyre pressure be different? _________________ Simon Cuerden

Where do you get this?
There was a chap doing a product that pumped into your tyre as a puncture Prevention at the IOW but I haven’t seen it since? _________________ Simon Cuerden

try here:-
ULTRASEAL ON EBAY
enough in a bottle to do 3 GTs tyres.
if you do put it in your tyres tell the tyre fitter when you get your tyres changed so he doesn't get a surprise _________________

While we are on the subject of punctures here a good tip:
Always carry a can of foam inflating puncture repair, taking a GTS back wheel off can be fookin emotional.
Unfortunately some times the tire can be a twatt to inflate because it has become unseated from the rim. No matter how strong you are you aint ever getting the thing to hold while the can inflates the tire.
Carry 2 – 3 small ratchet straps (Halfords do them) and force the tire in towards the rim, I have done this once but believe me when you need the ratchet straps you need them.
Also a decent repair kit for tubeless tires complete with rubber bungs and co2 canisters.
Another top tip, put yer gloves on before using these canisters coz they don’t half get cold!!! _________________ Simon Cuerden

like the idea of carrying a tubeless tyre punture kit, i'm planning on geting one, hopefully won't ned it with the ultraseal.
not a fan of the foam stuff, again ultraseal should sort a puncture, if not then the tubeless kit will.
i take it the ratchet strap goes round the circumferance of the tyre to force the tread towards the center of the rim and in turn the edge of the tyre (bead?) towards the edge of the rim and seal, then the air from the canisters force the tyre to seat properly. neat _________________
