well at the end of the day it was me saying i want a mini tour of scotland and who's coming !!! look im easy it is a lot of miles agreed so might need braking down, as of the moment i wont be leaving till the thurs so its wait and see, or as we have a ruff plan off what to do lets just ride and see were we end up ??? there is loads of sites up there we could put a head down if we dont get to ben nevis etc...saying that is ben nevis campsite deposit upfront to get on site or can we just turn up ??? _________________ GTS OWNERS CLUB

It`s easy to get carried away when planning these trips.Once the excitement grips you, nothing else seems to matter.
Golden rule with these jaunts is: SAFETY,FUN AND COST.
It`s important to understand some folk will not be used to high mileage in one day and their scoot may not be as comfy as some of the others.
If we find that the campsite will be ok if we just turn up then we have some flexibility in the plan.If it`s full then we just have to make sure we don`t arrive at `silly time` to find somewhere else. The hospitality up there is great and i`m sure we will have no prob`s finding alternative accommodation.
The Isle of Skye has it`s own micro climate so take the weather forecast with a pinch of salt and be prepared for the worst!
I`d rather folk thrash out the logistics now and avoid falling out with each other on the trip.Remember the idea is to enjoy each others company and the scenery
Good preparation for this trip will pay off big time.
I`m sure there will be plenty of cameras but can at least a couple of folk bring video cameras?
I`ll either be meeting you at Scotch corner or Glasgow.I`ll have a word with Suit Scoot and work out the best arrangements. _________________ The Stig rides an Auto so is always in TOP GEAR! |

Safety is paramount, but it is not as far up for me starting in the NorthWest, so I'll just go with the flow... _________________

So what's the latest guys?
Are we still going up on the Weds to Glen Nevis campsite?
That's what I'd like to do, if not then I would suggest stopping on the Weds somewhere as far north as poss, but my preferred option would be to get up to Fort William on the Wednesday. _________________

It only rains twice in Fort William - October to May, and June to September
What comes after two straight days of rain in Fort William? Monday morning.
What do you call two weeks of rain in Fort William? An Indian Summer
How do the locals predict the weather in Fort William? If you can see Ben Nevis, it's going to rain. If you can't see Ben Nevis, it's raining.
"I can't believe it," said the tourist. "I've been here an entire week and it's done nothing but rain. When do you have summer here?" "Well, that's hard to say," replied the local. "Last year, it was on a Wednesday." _________________

me too
as for previous comments in this thread, i'm going to make the most of this trip within the confines of common sense and safety of course, that goes without saying but i don't want to arrive home and think to myself "i wish i'd done this or i wish i'd done that" everyone has to be aware of their own caperbilities and limitations and know when enough is enough, there are no medals or badges to be won after all _________________

I just got back from a trip to Fort William thought you might like to know some distances. I live by junction 11 of M5 and it was 465miles and 9.5 hours stopped 3 times once for about 30 min to have brekky. was riding at about 70 - 80 mph. I know some of you live just off J6 M5 so will have about 25 miles less than this.
The para monument is only 10 miles from Fort William on the road to skye.
Also rode to skye which was approx 95 miles and took about 2 hours.
The area is absolutly stunning and the roads are excellent. the worst bit is if you get caught behind a coach or lorry then you get slowed up. Also the weather can change very quickly we went from brilliant sunshine to torrential rain and strong winds in about 20 mins.
But the people, scenery and eveything else was spot on. |

We set off at 5.00am and got to the B&B at 2.30 missed the heavy traffic. The best part is when you get to Ranoch moor and see the sign Welcome to the Highlands then within 10 minutes you are ridin between mountains and not a house or building in sight awesome. |
