thought i'd start a new thread to discuss the route we're going to take for the tour of scotland..........

i think we can safely say that we won't be visiting John o'groats as the concensus of opinion says it's fairly crap and not really worth the effort....

when are we starting out?? will it be the weds or thurs??

i suggest those going first all arrange to meet up at some services (scotch corner???) and get as far north as possible with the idea of going north then head south west to arrive at the Isle of Bute rally friday evening???

rather than having a route set in stone, how about we leave things open and a bit flexible and rather than having to be at a set place at a set time we have contact numbers so folks who join the tour en route can find out where we'll be by the time they catch up?????

i know nothing about scotland, i don't know where anything is but one thing i'd like to see is the Royal Marine Commando memorial (Glencoe) if that's possible then great, if not then no problem Cool

these are just my thoughts, pull them aprat by all means Cool

DISCUSS

***UPDATE*** i will be deleting posts that are off topic and un-needed to keep things straight forward and easy to follow Cool

Fort william is a great place forra night out, plenty of live music and interesting folk who no one on this great earth can understand. Laughing

Ok, I've been having a look at the map.
How about we start out Wed morning & head for the Lake district. We could meet up on the way.
Stop over, say Kendal (cheap Travelodge)?
Distance from Norwich to Kendal approx. 250 miles.
(less for me) Laughing

Thurs am - Up the M6 - A74(M) - Glasgow - A82 - stop at Glencoe, then onto Fort William.
Distance from Kendal to Fort William approx. 250 miles.

Fri am - A82 - A828 - Oban for breakfast.
A85 - A819 - Inverary - A83 - A886 - Isle of Bute (this is the long way round).
Distance from Fort William to Isle of Bute approx. 120 miles.

Leave the rally on Sun am. - On the ferry - A78 - A71 - Kilmarnock
A76 - Dumfries - A75 - M6 then head south.

There's a basic route for you all. Any more ideas Question Wink
