If you don't mind me saying, I think you guys are mental travelling all the way to Fort William, only to travel back down to the west coast. It's a fair old jaunt, and the roads aren't exactly welcoming the further north you travel. If I were you, I would travel up the A1, check out the beautiful city of Edinburgh (avoiding the locals as they're all a bit weird Laughing ), then it's a quick drive along the M8 to Wemyss Bay(pronounced weems bay) via the beautiful city of Glasgow(which has much nicer friendlier locals Wink ).

There is plenty to do around Scotland's central belt, and there is plenty of scenery to see along the way.

Just thought I would throw in my tuppence worth, and I can't be bothered with all the pedantic stuff. Just come up and enjoy yourself, as you will find most people are friendly and welcoming.

appreciate your input but the whole point of our jaunt is to end up at the isle of bute rally and we thought we'd like to see skye, loch ness, the commando memorial at spean bridge and neptunes staircase near fort william on the thursday then have lunch in oban on the friday on the way to the rally.

didn't really want to get involved in any city stuff to be honest but thanks anyway Cool

This thread is starting to annoy me now - not fore the 'scotch' debate, or the endless discussion about the route - but for the simple fact that I am really, really tempted to join in the fun and games.

However, Maidstone (Kent) is a bugger of a long way from Fort William and having done Kelso a month or so back I'm not sure the old 'farmers' could handle another blast northwards!

That said, I've got next week off work so who knows.....

It's decision time:
Scotland tour = hundreds of miles, fun, fun fun but with a sore arse to show for it - or...
Shed Rally = 49 miles, fun, fun fun and naked ladies Laughing Laughing

It was meant tongue-in-cheek Smile Edinburgh is a beautiful city. Cool

As for your planned jaunt further north, it will be interesting to hear how it all went, and i am looking forward to reading about it on here.

all the very best. Smile

If you guys are going up that far it'd be a shame for you not to visit Glenfinnan.
Its about 15/20 miles west of Fort William, and is one the most beautiful spots in the U.K.
Theres a monument to the Gathering of The Clans there that you can climb up, its also where some of the Harry Potter train scenes were filmed.
Its worth a Google at least !

Yip Glenfinnan is very nice-drove through it this morning in fact Very Happy A wee note of caution when coming up the A82 after Tarbet(12 mile stretch)-beautiful scenery across Loch Lomond but caravanners and coach drivers dont seem to understand that they're supposed to stay in their own lane Evil or Very Mad If you get the chance stop on that stretch of road check the view and waterfall in the hills behind Drovers Inn-at Inveraran after Ardlui.A lot of bikers going up north stop at the Green Welly(cafe, shopand petrol) at Tyndrum about 5 miles after Crianlarich.Glencoe is stunning and if you get the weather even better.Remember Clachaig is not far from campsite if you fancy a beer. Wink Think I might get a job with the Tourist Board!!! Very Happy
