Hello there. I'm Jon from Coventry and i'm thinking of buying a GTS to commute to work on and have a few questions for GTS owners.

I was wondering if the GTS will sit at 70 comfortably and what is a real world top speed ( I will be fitting a small screen)?
What is the fuel consumption like? What kind of mileage can I expect out of the tyres (I am not a lunatic rider and try to brake gently) and how much to replace them?

What about servicing costs etc?
Anybody using heated grips, how good are they? Do they run the battery dry quickly?

Any information appreciated,

Jon

I was wondering if the GTS will sit at 70 comfortably and what is a real world top speed ( I will be fitting a small screen)?speedo will show 85 when engine is warmed up, real speed about 75 - 80mph engine has a rev limiter so no worrys about straining engine

What is the fuel consumption like? costs £6 to £7 to fill it up, tank lasts 100miles to 120miles

What kind of mileage can I expect out of the tyres (I am not a lunatic rider and try to brake gently) and how much to replace them? standard tyres are usually "sava" brand and rear will last about 6000 miles as they're quite hard, front will last lots longer, most folks change to michelin pilot sports and a rear will last about 4000 miles again front a lot longer, pilot sports i get fitted and balanced to a loose wheel for about £40 each

What about servicing costs etc?no idea, can't help you there, sorry

Anybody using heated grips, how good are they? Do they run the battery dry quickly?again, can't help

Any information appreciated,

Jon

Yep agree with Maver on most of his comments, though my rear tyre wore out by 4000mls {Sava} I am on the large side {xxxl} does about 65mpg, and cruises at 70mph easy. Servicing costs vary it would seem, depending on location. I know a Woman who just got heated grips on her GTS 125 thinks there ace, as for flattening the battery its too soon to know, but if you put your gloves in the storage under the seat there nice and warm when you get back on after filling up, keep your spare pair there! but not beer! Never been a better Vespa or quicker!

WELCOME JON..... Wink

Maver is virtually spot on mate ......

the tyreS ..sava...aren`t brilliant...but should last between 4 to 6 thousand miles.....

The services down this way were in between £100 and £120....

i thrashed my first gts up and down the country full throttle for about 7 thousand miles....sold it and bought another one.....BUT WATCH THAT EXHAUST GASKET......

In Short...watever any traditionalists say....

THE BEST VESPA EVER ............... Wink

Another quick question.

Where's the best place for insurance?

I have a policy for my classic scooters so would need to do the GTS separately. Just tried Bennets online and they quoted £130 with protected no claims. I'm 36 and have held my full licence for 17 years, no claims or convictions and it would be garaged.

Cheers,

Jon

I use Norwich union.....

not the cheapest but they have low access and are good if theres any problems..... Wink

Oh and by the way...when the gts is `run in` it should easily cruise at 70-75 mph.....

these things cost more to service than a car does.

theyre ok if you ride round the block or to a rally once in a blue moon.

but after 24,000 miles the servicing costs spiral out of control if you want to keep the warranty.

last year i had 12 services.

11 of them cost £90

then the 12th one cost £220 because i had stuff replaced.

i do my own services now, and i've managed to keep the cost of the thing down.

if your gonna go globetrotting on one, be prepared for a huge bill if you dont wanna get your hands dirty.

i think you're over servicing your GTs................ 11 x £90 = £990 + £220 = £1210 Shocked Shocked

i've done 9000 miles had the first service, an oil change, new belt and rollers, less than £100

someones making money out of you Wink

Thanks for the feedback lads.

I've seen a couple of scooters on Ebay at £2995 or best offer and was wondering if anyone has used them?

I think that they are called Wiltshire and Sons and are based in Farnham. Looks like a bargain as it's about £4/500 better than the local dealers but obviously they must be pre-registered. I would prefer to use someone local but don't think they will be able to come anywhere close to this price.
