the ECU update is a new version of the ignition map to replace the factory installed one, smoother tickover on starting and at traffic lights.
faults:-
mine had coil fault, corrosion on coil conector, cleaned & w/proof grease applied, sorted
andy had the coil fault and injector fault both remedied with the clean and grease method
not faults in the parts just faults in their ability to pass current _________________

mine were removed the third time it was done and did not come back after a quick test ride
went well for the 100 miles home and feels better when ticking over and hitting the rev limiter at about 90mph on the clock
thanks again cheeky _________________ Darkside, Norwich Broadsmen SC

Took mine to MSC on saturday for ECU update, but they said that the ECU wouldn't accept it, they would be writing to Piaggio and it may need new ECU (warranty). Has anyone else had this problem? |

It depends on what version is on there... the very original firmware wasnt updateable... and if its got the latest already it wont allow it to be redone... |

Had the same problem, complete loss of power, like the ignition had been switched off, pull over switch off then on and starts straight away, only to cut out again . Dealer changed the ecu and everything was ok till last week, when it happened 6 times in 1 mile. Took the kill switch off, done 50 miles so far so good |

I had that on the way back from Bridlington last year. Thought it'd be expensive.
Started with the cheapest thing first - new plug, hey presto! No problems since! _________________

Kill switches do seem to be a common fault, although ive not seen as many fail as i hear about on here... might be worth you lot greasing them to help stop it happening. |
