I have put my crankcase together with a new crankshaft, and have added the piston, cylinder and head (no head nuts yet) . But I have four small O-rings, about 10mm across, and can't remember where they go.
They look as though they would fit on the cylinder studs, but I cannot see any space between the crankcase and cylinder, cylinder and head, or head and nuts to accomodate them.
I have scanned the parts manual, but cannot spot them there, and couldn't find mention of them in the workshop manual.
Any experts out there who can identify these rubber rings?
Thanks, Mike _________________ Vespa GTS250 Vintage Red |

OK. I figured it out. They go on the cylinder studs last thing before fitting the head.

Its a form of madness talking to yourself you know
But glad you sorted it anyway... was it crank failure or just other reason for rebuild? Main bearings still ok or did you get them machined out and replaced? |

I wrecked my crank threads using an impact driver to tighten the variator.
While I had the engine in pieces I spent a little more money and fitted a Polini 210cc cylinder. Bought the cylinder from PM, the gasket set plus new outer half-pulley from Gus Sutton, and the crankshaft locally. Have also fitted eco-leather grips and am about to fit a GTS front mudguard emblem. Also got a wadding kit from PM for my PM62. Still waiting for a new J.Costa variator bell from Matt - it is in the post.
So I should have quite a fun scooter when I get it back on the road.

Ah! But to bring it back to life again!
For a few days I seriously considered replacing it with a GTS, but decided I am still having too much fun with it.
