Over tight valve clearances... if your lucky it just gets bad to start or cuts out often.. if not it gets messy

nasty!!
25,000miles of constant hammering up and down our motorways.
it aint blown up yet, but i keep proper on top of the thing. i change the oil myself after every 2k.
then when it needs the biggy services it goes to white's in darlington because im a lazy arse.
and guess what, it still shows 94 on the clock with a fat tyre.
RELIABLE AS HELL! (with the right care)
it gets bounced off the rev limiter everytime it goes out, almost
im sure it would have gone pop by now.. _________________ revolution deathsquad! |

My last two rear tyres have been pilot sport 140's and they fitted fine, didn't rub anywhere.
With the fat tyre on, I can never hit the rev limiter, and get around the mid nineties on the clock, in good conditions.
Truth be told, I like the pies, and I weigh nearly 18 stone, and i'm running 14.7g rollers- This is probably why I can't hit the limiter! _________________

Yes it can just happen, only the 125 gives hard to start issues when the valves get tight, normally they start and run, but leak a little combustion pressure through the inlet, this causes heat to build up on the inlet valve stem far above and beyond what it was designed to accept and basically they get fatigue and snap off... and then you get that pictures mess.
NEVER EVER wait for running issues before doing valve clearances... by then its too late and doing damage.. Valves and valve seats are easy damaged and expensive to repair, where as adjusting the valves is cheap! |

Tom, how much is it to just check the valve clearances? I can do the rest of the service myself, but I'd rather have the valves checked professionally! _________________

Depends where you go... but if you half mechanically minded its dead easy. Takes 30mins max. (or about 6hours on my aprilia ) |
