yeah but if it's a fully threaded bolt then the section of the bolt that is thru the alloy casting can be full of grease "in the threads" therefore be more corrosion resistant......... surely
waits for the "don't call me shirley" airplane line..... _________________

Yes it would, apart from the threads would end up damaging the alloy casing overtime, which isnt a good idea when is the engine case.... |

ok so we stick with using the std bolt, removing it to clean it up / regrease and re-fit when we have the rear wheel off for a new tyre _________________

Tom, Didn't you notice the steel liner in the engine casing where the bolt goes through ? The ally casing doesn't come anywhere near the bolt
Stainless bolt is not threaded all the way up, yes it might bind, but i doubt it, what it will not do is rust it's self and therefore it will prevent the problem.
I know it's better than a steel bolt in a steel liner _________________

Yeah i forgot the steel liner... but as i dont have stand issues as my bikes are well PDI'd i dont need to worry
But glad to hear the bolts not threaded all the way up, as it would cause more wear, which inturn would allow more airgap, then more water ingress and more problems.
I dont see why people have so many problems with them, you dont even need to worry about the springs if your sensible and substitute the bolt with something while the bolts out... so it takes 5mins to regrease it up. |
