bought new miirors and adaptors.
Fitted adaptor (10-8mm) and all ok.
Fitted new mirror into adaptor and when I went to tighten the adaptor just sheared off in the scoot grrr!
have complained and asked for new part but need to get the sheared bit out of scoot.
Nothing to grab hold off so presume I wil have to tap & die. Not done this before so any advice greatfully recieved |

You could drill it and use "easy outs", they lke a reverse thread thing that tighten in the opposite direction so will grip the sheared bit and screw it out. (Hmmm, someone clever explain better pleasse). Or tack weld something onto it? |

Don't go telling them anti auto lot on Trogs site or you'll never hear the end of it again

You can use easy-outs, but be careful, coz if you snap the easy-out, then you are in all sorts of trouble. You can try drilling the centre of the broken stud with a small drill, then a bigger one, then a bigger one still, until the broken stud is very thin, then use a punch on the outer edge of the stud and tap it towards the centre. Repeat around the circumference of the stud and you should be able to lift out the remnants of the stud with a pair of long nose pliers without damaging the threads. |

Think I'll be going down hardware shop to buy new drill bits tmoz to try Jetexs idea.
Know what you mean Ian - already getting stick on trogs site re filling with diesel on the way to Gt yarmouth! Says something though when the only faults they can come up with on GTS is me being an idiot for using wrong fuel (though BP using green pumps for diesel is dumb) and add ons like mirrors! that said its Trogs meet in NQ on Sun so some more stick will come my way but then I just leave em behind on rideouts! Oh and surprisingly more members seem to be getting GTS's!
Any more ideas/tips welcome re getting thread out.
Where do I get 'easyouts'? |

Easy-outs are a left hand threaded spiral tool. You drill a hole in the damaged stud,approximately half the diameter of the broken stud, then screw in the appropriate sized easy-out anti clockwise. Because it's left handed, as you screw it in, it will loosen the damaged stud. Be careful though, because they are very brittle and will snap off if too much force is used if the broken stud is tight. In that case, you would have to drill a series of small holes around the easy-out, and lift out the broken easy-out with pliers. You cannot drill an easy-out because they are hardened. All the above is from personal experience. I used to work in a car engine re-conditioners, and had to rectify engine blocks where the owners had snapped off an easy-out when attempting to remove a broken cylinder head stud. |
