|
|
I've just bought a 12v power socket (cigarette lighter type) to fit to my 125 GTS and was looking for some pointers.
I intend to fit it in one of the 'knee pads' and would like it to only power up when the ignition is on. Can anyone give me a fools guide to fitting it? I need to know whether I can do this job by just removing the knee pad or whether other panels will need to come off, which wires to snip and where etc. I also have a 5A fuse to fit with it.
Thanks in advance,

I've heard several different ways to do it , Maver has a good way so he may post how he's done it, all I did was to tap into the wires going into the horncast light and put an inline fuse in and thread it into the toolbox, secured the fag lighter with some tie clips and hey presto it worked.
Was quite pleased with my results as I'm not used to all this modern technology

I did have a look at a few topics relating to the power socket, that's where I got the idea and found the product!
Have I missed a detailed fitting guide?
Is it as simple as taking power from the back of the ignition barrel and earthing to the chassis somewhere? I assume the fuse should go between the ignition barrel and the power socket? |

I've already bought the bits seperately unfortunately.....but then they did cost me £3.50 all in.
Just had a look behind the left knee pad and found a spare socket in which I've identified the earth and the ignition feed so will just splice off them I think.
All being well I should have power by this evening.....in time for my scooterjaunt to France |

Just remove the left knee pad. When open you will see a connection with some cables inside to connect a alarm system.
Use here the full white kabel for power(after contact) and the black one for the earth. |

Well, I've only gone and done it! Got it working, like mgent said, just spliced off the black and the white cables
Martin68.....what's this Hellraiser thing all about? I am actually going with a couple of mates on a ride that will take us wherever it fancies from Boulogne....but if there happens to be a rally on then might just tag along!
We sail next friday and fancied heading to Brighton (the French one that I never knew was there), after that we've no idea. Any suggestions for destinations that are perhaps a max of 300 miles from Boulogne?
Cheers everyone,

Hellrun looks like fun but might be a bit far considering we 'only' have 4 days and don't want to spend all our time riding....must leave room for booze and good food! We do plan to head south down the coast so we can see how we get on. I guess at the very least we will see plenty of other scooters on the roads, should make for a great trip.
We were thinking of smaller towns and villages rather than Paris and the like, want to keep away from all the traffic and spend our time on nice sweeping roads with nice surroundings.
Thanks for the pointers. |
